I gave up researching and just drilled the bumper... Sucked, but now it's done and no worries with getting pulled over and paying the $240!

I've been driving for 10 years without a front plate on any car I've owned without it in the windshield now and have yet to be harassed about it again.
I have been doing the same I keep the front plate under the rug of the passenger side, and slip it out if I get pulled over.

I've run with 3m 20 pound two way tape for over a year now with zero issues. Here are the parts for those who don't want to drill.

From an earlier post I made on another forum...

OK, some links for those who are interested. It was my first mod... I really disliked the idea of drilling holes in my car. Buy the 20 pound 3m tape. This tape is rock solid. Like you, I drive fast... and live in hot / cold weather. It is not coming off the car. That said, if you want to remove the tape, use fishing line... look up threads on de-badging your car. Same technique...
You should be able to go out and get all these details via the mighty search gods. I invented nothing...
By the way, you can get all these parts at Lowes / Home Depot.

Super cool link with great pics:

What the &*^& is a brad hole nut tee?

OK, but what parts do I need?

Parts List for Peeps!
4x 3/8" threaded t-nuts with 1" diameter base
4x 3/8" short nylon bolts (you can use metal bolts as I twisted one nylon bolt off by accident)
3M heavy duty mounting tape
6x 3/8 neoprene washers
Lots of nylon washers

optional stuff:
4x M6x12 stainless hex cap bolts (you want stainless unless you like rust)

The fix it ticket cost $240 or is that the fee if you choose not to fix it?

IDK if someone said it yet but as of 1 SEPT 13 in Texas it is a misdemeanor charge and fine of up to $200 to have only one plate on a vehicle that was issued 2. Also the plate MUST be mounted on the front most part (bumper) of the vehicle. It is possible though I hear to specifically request 1 plate.

For NY had my front plate in the window for about 6 mos with no issues, then in the trunk for 18 mos with no issues

Honestly, I think the stock location looks cooler. I see other cars trying to emulate it. One year later, the 3M tape has really held up.

As with laws, I have no clue what is accurate and what is not. When I bought my car from Don Herring they did not mount the front bracket because they said according to Texas law, it is not going to be required.

I have only been given smack once for no front plate and that was when I was getting on post. But they also make their own rules on post, like no radar detector and no walking and talking on the phone.

A few years ago I was pulled over for no front plate on my Eclipse. The cop ran all my info and I was clean so they let me go with a warning. I would say that if you're driving dirty (no insurance, tags, warrants, drugs, drunk, etc), I would insure you have front plates. If two plates are required by your state, you will always have some cop using that as an excuse to pull you over.
It's true, I got stopped for no front plate. No other violation,no bs.
All of a sudden I got slapped with a reckless driving summons.
Thank god for video survelience, cops didn't know.
Had asked the homeowner if I needed a copy , would he have a problem with that.
Lucky me he was a hippie type, with a background in civil rights.
Needless to say when judge was ready to clip me, I mention the video.
Like magic all charges disappear, I got lucky.
Ordered a front plate mount the next day.
For the record, I went almost 8 years without being stopped for it.
So it's a hassle if you are like me & aren't a fan of interacting with Leo.

If they don't see a plate in the windshield they think you're from out of state or just a case of "out of site out mind".

Funny that you should mention this. When I'm not logged in, I try to pretend that the public-school system still works.
