Mind bending performance...kinda

Hi all, new to DSMs in general, just bought a 2014 WW MR. The performance is acceptable however i will be getting rid of the stock tune ASAP + intake and exhaust. My question is this.. what mod will give me more sound from the turbo spooling and wastegate/BOV? Ive had many turbo cars (supra, SR20'd 240s...) and I desperately miss the sound of a spooling turbo and its bov. (even factory). The MR is so quiet on the road, all i get is the tinny whine of the engine at the 5k rpm max i shift at (per the manual for the first 600 miles).

Any guidance on making the turbo more audible and enjoyable is appreciated.. sounds like an odd request maybe, but ive learned over all the cars ive owned that its not just about having breakneck performance, its the small flavorful tidbits in between that you learn to savor as well..

Cobb intake and inlet does the trick. Faster spooling, go with map test pipe and ams downpipe. Every test pipe is the same, no need to spend the extra $$ unless you want to. I have stock cat back, and the car spools soo damn quick and I love the noise. Sock bov its pretty loud imo the second your slap on a carry back you won't hear the turbo unless its quite.

Yeah im gonna go with I think the q300 by invidia. it seems to be one of the more quiet exhausts on the market for this car.

Injen intake is quite loud.

Not sure how you're looking for mods etc - but I'm actually selling my Injen intake, upper intercooler pipe and synapse BOV right now... All great products, just won't work with my new T4 Borg Warner set up. It'll give you the sound you want and also help in the power department once you get tuned.

I'm running the Invidia q300. Love it. For the price, there are few better looking/sounding exhausts out there IMO. As just a cat-back, it is fairly quiet, a bit throatier than stock, but not overly loud. Once I threw my ETS restonated test pipe on it, it got pretty loud. I do have to say, it probably is no louder than any other cat back with a test pipe.

As for turbo/bov sound, definitely get an intake. It was my first mod, and is one of the easiest you can do for some awesome sound. Make sure when selecting one, you choose something that uses the stock MAF housing unless you're putting it on when you get a tune.

AMS intake will def do the job on both spooling and blow off. Mine is damn loud, it's almost too loud for my tastes. You'll need a tune w/the AMS

Since you have an MR, you won't get ANY bov sound on throttle up shifts. If you build boost and then let off the throttle, you will get the bov sound.

Gotta say i'm surprised you arent getting butchered for referring to an evo as a DSM lol.

Us DSM guys hate when anything other than a E/T/L are called DSMs. But we let the eclipses made by MMNA slide as dsms....

PS. What the guy above me said.

DSM's? Since when has the Evo been a DSM? DSM, or Diamond Star Motors, was a collaborative effort between Mitsubishi and Chrysler. Now, I would not get the Turbosmart raceport BOV. I have it and hate it. Use a stock BOV that has been crushed. They hold boost better. You will want to stay recirculated and not vent to atmosphere. I found that when I bought an ETS intake, my turbo sounded a little louder. I would recommend this for a cheap way to get a little extra performance and sound.

And, may I add that once you begin to modify your car, you may possible destroy your warranty. My son just spent $2,800 to pay for a new AYC pump on his 2011 GSR with 23k miles. Mitsubishi now wants pictures of any modifications done to an Evo along with any codes that have been thrown. If you get a CVN code, voila, instant voiding of your warranty.

As was already stated, the MR's will not provide the BOV sound on upshifts, because the SST will not allow the car to "unload" during shifts (unless you let off the throttle). Since the stock BOV is actually pretty well made, there is no need to replace it
