Potential X owner

So I currently own an 05 VIII and have lately started to fall in love with the X, which admittedly I hated at one point. I can't give up the VIII for one as I love the older body Evos. Want an X as a daily to keep stock, Mayne only minor bolt ones and suspension/wheels. Do most people prefer the paddles or stick shift?

I'm a former IX owner...I've loved every mile on my X since I bought it in 2010

It's a very simple decision actually, do you want an automatic or manual transmission car for your daily? Both are great transmissions and will remain reliable given proper care and maintenance.

You don't miss the 9? I can't come to terms with letting mine to. I love the 8/9 body more than the x. I just think the X is so slick and woud make a great daily. As far as the trans, is one stronger/more reliable? I'm leaning towards paddles.

I've owned 03 and 05 VIII's. I wish I still had my 05 VIII. This X and its timing chain stretching suxks.

103k miles here with original time chain. stretched chain is blown out of proportion. you either drive like a idiot or you don't know how to drive. the bigger issue is the plastic pulleys but that's an easy/cheap fix.

I love my 05. I can't get rid of it. It's a perfect car. I just think the X is a clean daily, and I'm really curious to see how much better it handles, got me excited lol also that I an fit wide wheels easy.

I've driven enough VIII's and IX's working at the dealership to be able to tell you the comfort level in a X is well worth the switch for DD.

As far as MR vs GSR, it really depends. I mean, if you drive 15 miles in stop and go traffic you may want to look at the MR. If you occasionally hit traffic, or your commute us fairly light traffic, the GSR has a light enough clutch that it's not a huge P in the D.

lol... if you can't handle 15 minutes of traffic in a manual transmission, how the hell do you live your life? you guys must have really easy lives. the stock clutch is so soft, even my mom doesn't complain about driving my car in traffic. she just doesn't appreciate the power

I'm a stick shift guy. Just wondering if the paddles are nice in the X kinda like in the bimmers I've driven. I'm looking more for which tranny is stronger if there's even a difference.

I'm just scared of the twin clutch dying that's whats making me second guess. Also, I know the AYC is notorious for giving out. Is the car still safely drive able if it dies on you?

Love the IX and X equally as I've owned both. They are two different beasts. The X is a great DD and super fun to drive. With some suspensions mods and tuning it will handle like it's on rails.

WTF???

The MR transmission has proven extremely reliable even when pushed a bit. Is there a limit to it? yes. But it's no less reliable at near stock levels then the 5-speed.

And AYC is notorious for giving out??? That's just not true. The AYC unit is great and only has problems when trying to track a car with significantly higher then stock wheel horsepower.

If you are referring to the AYC/ACD pump that is known to fail, well that's no different then on the viii and the ix, it's almost exactly the same unit except has an additional port for the AYC. And I'm driving an '08 gsr with 50k miles and lots of nasty winter driving with no issues.

Ive had both the sst and 5speed gear box evo x and as much as i love the sst tranny, the gsr gets my vote.. I was always paranoid that my sst would break and i was afraid mitsu would void my warranty with all the mods i had so i traded it in for a gsr. Im glad i made the switch but the sst will always be missed.

No need to to get defensive. There's a HUGE thread on the SST AND AYC failing. Yes, no different than the acd in the evo. Mine is currently not working hence the reason I ask. I'm not a VIII owner coming here to subliminally bash the X, I actually REALLY want one. Just looking for little info and experiences
