EVO X : Headlight Question

Took my car to mechanic for oil change, who noticed both front headlights sidemarker bulb covers floating inside units. No freaking clue how this happened, as there is no damage to front bumpers, no sign of an accident.

Is there a way to put these covers back in place by removing the Xenon lamp cover or do I need to replace both units? Trying to determine if I must go through insurance, try to get Mitsubishi to warranty it, or buy used units off ebay.

My freaking luck!

I dont think you will be able to get through there by just removing the HID lamp cover in the back, at most it'll just give you acccess to the bulb itself. You can ask your dealership if its cover by warranty and if they can fix it. And if that doesnt work, you dont have to buy a new one, just open it up (look for threads about headlight retrofit) and it should be an easy fix. Now I dont know if those corner light just threads in there or held by glue or something.

I remember reading a thread a few days back about someone having the same issue. I think Mitsubishi ended up covering under warranty.

Found the post.

This happened to me a month or so ago. I just had my passenger side light replaced under warranty on Monday. It's a $1200 part so it needed mitsu corp approval. The heat from the corner bulb distorts the clip that keeps the lens in place.

Don't sweat it... and whatever you do don't mess with it! They can deny service if the housing or bulb has been tampered with – that was the impression I got when they looked my car over.

I saw a thread on this as well not long ago, but I was unable to find it in a search. But I recall them stating it was repaired with warranty.

It is possible to pull the lense off the headlight housing, I've done it on a few other cars but it's a huge pain.

Pull open the lens, fix your problem, do a quad retrofit while you're at it.
