It was when my buddy owned it, I bought it from him (stock) a few months back. Tuned by Jestr here in Orlando, who I'm told had the exact same reaction as you just did and honestly the same as I did when I heard it. I may have the TQ figure off by a little but I know it made 330whp on the dyno at CFT. Going to put the same mods back on and get it retuned. Here's to hoping I have a factory freak.

I just had my 2010 GSR tuned at Cobb in Plano. Power-related mods are limited, and very similar to what others are recommending on this thread...

  • Cosworth drop-in
  • AMS HFC
  • HKS catback (65mm, not the usual 3", and bought used, and cheap!)
  • Grimmspeed 3-port EBC
  • Boost pill removed
  • Cobb AP Protune
Results were impressive for such a small outlay.

319 AWHP / 357 Lb ft . On a Mustang dyno. Lows 60s ambient temps.

Pretty smooth curves too.

I am guessing this is probably 80 bhp and 110 lb ft over stock? Since I didn't take a baseline, I can't be sure. Feels a lot different from stock though

Not sure... from memory, which isn't usually a good idea for me...

Filter - $45
EBC - $90
Cat back - $250
HFC - $350 ?
Tune - $400 + $350 or so for used AP

So allowing for my dodgy memory, around $1500. Plus some shipping costs.

Serious bang for the buck.

Yea I have similar mods to those being suggested. For me, the CBE is as important as a test pipe. Not for power gains...but to replace those unsightly stock exhaust tips. Everything in my sig can be done for $2500 or less, depending on the shop doing the work, and if you install the easy stuff yourself.

As was mentioned in one post, ambient temps make a big difference on numbers you'll see, as does the dyno you run on.

Good luck with the modding, you'll not be content at this level for long, I'm running into that now

Cobb AccessPORT is a tuning computer that you plug directly into your cars ECU. On it, you can store ECU maps that are available on Cobbs website for free and flash them to your ECU. This should not replace a custom tune. Instead, think of it as tunes for very basic set ups, such as purely stock, intake only set ups of various brands, and then Cobbs stage 2 set up which is listed on the map. If you decide to get creative and mix n match your own parts, you will then need a custom tune. This custom tune however, can also be stored on your AP.

This is what sets the AP apart. However it can also do other basic things such as data logging, reading diagnosing and clearing SES codes, etc.

I come from more of a street bike background. Would you say the accessport is like a piggy back device like a power commander or bazzaz unit? Sounds like it from the description. I've also read you can flash the ECU as well? I know in the bike world those are both beneficial, but a tune will provide you with the best results.

With the AP you are flashing the Ecu and changing the tune. Similar to how you would get a protune. My tuner applied my tunes to the cobb AP device.

at what stage do the Evo X's require a custom tune?

I'm new to the Evo community myself, I came from the Subie community; and for example, on the 08 STI you could do a catback and uppipe and a drop in air filter, before needing a tune. anything additional to those mods you'd need a tune. downpipe and a CAI or Short Ram and you'd need a tune.
I'm also looking at purchasing a few "light" mods. Already ordered a K&N Drop in, looking at UICP/LICP and I'm pricing Catbacks. But the whole testpipe/midpipe thing is new to me. can you run a test pipe with a stock exhaust and NOT require a tune? or if i do a catback and test pipe with the K&N, will i require a tune?

You should be ok with a drop in filter and CBE. I'm not sure if you need a tune with a UICP/LICP. But my understanding is you don't really need a LICP. Most the gains will be gained from the UICP.

I'm also not sure about needing a tune with a TP
