Dinging Sound Randomly

Hello,

So I have a 2014 Evo X MR, and I just got it 2 weeks ago. Love it so far!!

Anyways to my problem. Totally randomly I hear this noise which sounds like if you are on an airplane and they are about to make an announcement. I cannot recreate the noise and it is totally random. I am looking for things it may be warning me about but I cant see anything. It has happened while not moving and while moving. I went into Mitsubishi and they said they had no idea. One guy suggested it might be my GPS, but I looked through it and I dont think that is the problem. I looked through the manual and couldnt find anything, along with google.

If anyone has heard anything about this please let me know.

Thanks!

You don't happen to see a msg saying something about "roads could be icy" on your display when you hear the chime?

Agreed with above, when the outdoor temp sensor dips below 38F it'll ding and show a snowflake on the dash display with a message about icy roads.

Mine does it to. 2014 MR. It isn't the icy road sound. It sounds different, slightly. Mine usually occurs oddly enough on a freeway entry ramp...LOL

It's the "get ready and punch it" sound

i agree with what JHOOPS said. That is when i hear it most often.

to clarify, it is not the possibly icy roads sound or display. i cannot see anything happening on any screen when it dings.

thank you for feedback so far.

JHOOPS, have you figured it out? haha

Not a clue. I was actually sitting and reading through my manual when I saw this thread. I'm scratching my head. I have a feeling it is GPS related. Maybe a speed warning on entry ramps...LOL

Yea i browsed through my manual last night, nothing. Guy at mitsu told me to come back in the new year when their service manager is back from holidays, and maybe he can help me out. Another guy suggested GPS. The thing is, ive heard it while completely stopped, but come to think of it, that was on an exit ramp (bad traffic). Ill see what i can dig up, if you find something let me know. and vice versa, glad im not the only one hearing things haha :P

Maybe it's some sort of live traffic update the newer nav units have?

I have a '14 MR with MMCS and I have also heard that sound. I'm almost positive it's GPS related. Have you guys heard the sound ONLY when you're actually using the GPS to get you somewhere? As in, you actually have a route in the system that you're following.

I have confirmed that it is a GPS based ding. I hit the same entry ramp three times yesterday and it chimed at exactly the same spot. Now, what does it mean... I have no freaking idea!!!!!!

I had a ding ding sound when I first got my 08 last year. It was higher pitched than any of the usual dings. It was only when taking corners so I assumed it was traction control dinging at me. Went in for clutch work and it never did it again. But I was sure it was a software sound not mechanical.

What we are hearing is coming from the speakers. Most likely just the right channel.
