Warning for you guys. Take a second to read this
While entertaining, I dont think it's being said clearly enough - dont drive on the stock advans below the recommended operating temp / conditions. You will wreck your ****. It has nothing to do with your driving ability and everything to do with physics and the tire compound. Once it gets cold enough and worse if there is slush or snow on the ground you might as well just replace the tires with ice cubes.
I got my GSR in November. First thing I did was put Blizzaks LM-60's on it. No way I was going to survive the winter up here in New York with those stock tires.
Also I had the dealership put the license plate holder on since NY requires the front plate and I didn't want to worry about custom making brackets for it.

Bought my GSR in August, the second mod I did was winter tires, studded to be exact. I live where it snows in winter and this winter, with the extreme cold snap, all that snow turned to ice. Studded tires + Evo make me the envy of all drivers on the road these days, but I wouldn't necessarily go so far as to say everyone should get studded tires for the winter. There are 3 choices for climates that get cold, snowy and potentially icey during winter, Studded, Ice Radial (eg: Blizzak), and regular Winter Tires. Either are fine depending on your climate, vehicle and style of driving, I know this becuase this question has been asked a lot since the ****ing 90's and answered a lot, and everyone seems to say the same damn thing!!!
It's funny that this guy who works at a dealership had to find out the hard way that performance tires aren't worthy in the winter, what isn't funny is the amount of people who crash their vehicles every winter because they think they're fine on their summer tires, or all seasons. Google, Bing, Yahoo, what ever, all these search engines make it so easy to just ask a simple question, in less words then your instagram or twotter lets your write, and it'll give you a lay out of the real life facts about tires and how they perform in different weather. So come on people... seriously... why is this an issue every year? You would think a Car Dealer should know about cars and their tires, just like a Toaster salesperson should know they're electric and not to take a bath with one.
Summer = Summer
Winter = Winter
Now add the word "Tire" to the end of those... and what do you get?? LogicGasm

I have an 09 WRX that I have used summer performance tires on last winter and this current winter. Last winter it was an extremely light winter, and you could barely tell, this year it is hell (I am not getting snow tires because I plan on this being my last year with the car and upgrading into a X).
Now when I get the X, a second set of wheels with snow tires is a no brainer. I used snow tires when I had my DSM, and the thing felt invincible even in a level 3. Currently I can survive this winter, then again my commute to work is 3 blocks, and if I go somewhere else, its taking my time with caution.
somewhat
. Whats the general super cheap fugly wheel that will fit the evo X that most people mount the snow tires to? For the winter I am mainly looking to save money and have it work, not look nice.
