Evo X Stage 1 questions

Going to begin modifying my Evo X and was just wondering what is a "stage 1" mod.

Do you guys also recommend a cobb acessport?

If I'm in the wrong forum side, I am sorry. Please forgive me!

There is no unified meaning of "stage __." That's why the term is so dumb. How much horse power do you want. And how type of fuel do you have regularly accessible to you?

I usually use 93. 320 HP would be fine with me.

Also would you recommend a access port?

"Stage 1" is general understood to be an intake and cat back only exhaust. You'd need a tune, too.

Cobb AP if you are running a GSR is fine. MR has been pretty sketchy.

320whp will mean intake, exhaust, downpipe/midpipe and a tune on gas. same setup would produce about 370whp on E85 and injectors.

This is going to be a dumb question. By exhaust you mean just the end part right? Because when i look it up its showing my the straight/down/and exhaust.

Can you also maybe link me some intakes and exhaust you recommend.

Here you go, they make some great products.

I would recommend getting, UICP, intake, full exhaust (with high flow cat or test pipe) intercooler, 3 port. You should be able to make 315-320 with those mods.

I also don't want a CEL being thrown out. Do these modifications throw the light of doom?

What is the light of doom? Service engine light?

Well with those parts you will need a tune. So no light of doom with a proper tune lol

you need straight, down, and exhaust for that power, yes. Any flavor your like.

you cannot do any of this without a tune, and, that will take care of check engine lights anyways

Go the Cobb route, its a little more money, but buy this http://www.cobbtuning.com/Mitsubishi-Evo-X-Stage3-Power-Package-w-Oval-Tip-p/652xv3o.htm and you'll have nothing to worry about. Mismatch parts and you might have issues. The Cobb AP is all the tune you'll need to be safe if you're buying Cobb parts, and then if you get a proper tune later on you'll gain even more HP

The Cobb AP allows you to do it in stages. For example, you can flash the stage 1 map and be completely stock. Some have added on an intake and FMIC/UICP and ran the stage 1 successfully although you need to watch out for the car leaning out.

Then when you're ready, you can add on a TB exhaust and flash to stage 2 map. You can then go a step further and add the EBC and flash to stage 3 (not sure if additional mods are needed).

The cobb ap also allows for easy monitoring and logging. Also clears codes and I'm sure a few other things.
