Hey guys I noticed today after a long journey and heavy driving. I have started to smell a very strong scent of gas after i stopped. I'm curious to find out what's the reason for this.

 

Im assuming you have an evo x based on the posted section but on my 8 I had the same issue. I pulled the rear seat to find out one of the nuts on top of the fuel pump had come off which was leading to a small gas drip which I could smell.

Exhaust leak somewhere? Have you changed any of the exhaust components recently? Have you checked the nuts/bolts holding the turbo against the manifold. They are prone to back out and cause an exhaust smell as well.

 

Sure, but he's complaining about a smell of gas, not a smell of exhaust gases.

Maybe you got a leak from the fuel rail or something.

 

My exhaust seems to be completely rusting and rotting in some areas. So that be the problem as well. I will check the exhaust rail as well. If you guys can think of anything else please let me know.

 

Now I'm confused... Are you smelling gasoline or exhaust fumes??

 

I'm smelling raw gas. But because the whole exhaust system resembles a rust bucket. I was just saying that, that could be a problem. So I could be confused as well.

 

If you don't feel confident in your mechanical know how, I'd say take it to a reputable shop to have a look at it for you.

This might be a good time to look for a replacement exhaust as well.

This might sound stupid, but you didn't drip some on your shoes when filling did you? It will get worse in the car if the air is blowing over.

 

Not at all in jamaica we have pump attendance who serves gas for us.
