unburnt gas smell
unburnt gas smell
i just got my car back from my bodyshop
Car was in the shop for a month
I have a 2003 evo 8 with walbro 255, rc1000, o2 dump, full 3" straight pipe, etc.
i noticed when i drive now I can smell strong unburnt gas smell inside the cabin when the windows are rolled down, none when windows are rolled up.
I am running a test pipe but wasn't able to smell it before while driving, only at stop.
Now I can smell it while driving on the freeway as well.
Sometimes I also get a slight misfire on cold start for few seconds but it'll go away once warmed up.
I put in fresh plugs bpr8es gapped at .023, did a boost leak, and checked for possible exhaust leaks.
Am I missing something?

Also what kind if ignition coils are you running? If they are original from 2003 it could be time to replace them. They don't last forever and one sign that they're going out is a gas smell since the combustion isn't happening fully you would have gas being pushed out the exhaust valve. I would assume though your afr's would be way off too if that was the case but I dont know if you have a wideband. My 2006 IX has 112k miles on it and I had to replace the ignition coils last week. I was getting idle dipping and a gas smell at idle too. Since swapping them out it feels like a new car again!!!
