Boshart engineering?
I got a letter from an outfit called boshart engineering, the short story is they say my evo has been randomly selected for emmisions compliance testing. They want to put a data logger on my obdII port for 20 minutes and the vehicle will not be driven. They said if I do it they will give me $100 for my time. Am I the only one around here that got a letter?
I got the same letter last year shortly after I bought my '13. The guy came to where I worked, connected his equipment and was done 10 minutes later. If I remember right it has something to do with confirming emissions controls or something on a random sample of cars and you can't beat a$50 gas card for 10 minutes. Even better if they've upped it to $100!
Looks legit.
From the site:
Owners’ vehicles must meet the following acceptance criteria in order to participate:
The vehicle must have at least 500 miles
The vehicle’s Engine Control Module (ECM) must not have been replaced or reflashed
The vehicle’s Check Engine Light has not illuminated or flashed during normal driving
so... no gas card for me!!

Boshart is a competitor of the company I work for. All manufacturers that sell in the US are required to do this check per the Air Resources Board and EPA. This is pretty much an OBDII system download and the data is sent to the government agency to show compliance. This is a voluntary program for the owner of the vehicle and there is usually an incentive if the owner wants to participate and the vehicle qualifies. Some criteria is the vehicle must be OEM, with some exceptions such as a K&N OEM replacement filter, mileage requirement, etc. Our techs go out and do this all the time.
