Modification Regrets?
I tried to go the cheapest route to monitor wide band o2 by buying a Megan Racing down pipe and having a bung welded in by meinke. After I got it installed I discovered that the weld was already rusting (after running the car maybe a total of 60 seconds) and then also discovering it rubbed up against the drive shaft balancer. I Ended up taking it out and removing the o2 housing and am going to install the Tomei Wide Mouth, could have saved about $150. So I also say not to go the cheap route on parts. Also now my entire TB exhaust will be Tomei.
You end up paying more in the end if you cheap out from the start. Spend the money and get quality parts from the get go.
'Believe it or Not' putting 'fancy' (heavy) valve stem caps on the TPMS caused cracks (leaking) and one to break when servicing...
$120 to replace one TPMS at Mr. Tire and $200+ for another TPMS & synch the new sensors at the dealership. :O
For the third (cracked) one I found a "TPMS Repair Kit' for $30 and another $25 to repair it at Eagle Tire... (did not have to synch it to fix the warning light
)

Not a mod but an Evo X regret
I purchased my GSR used, had 9,000 miles on it and paid $2,000 less than a brand new GSR. Mainly reason for this being the dealership I chose offered about $2,000 more on my trade in.
The $4,000 net difference seemed like a no-brainer but now I wish I purchased new.
I have 22,000 miles now and no problems thus far but nothing like driving a car off the lot for the first time.
On the flipside, the best modification I have done is not power or handling related.
Buying the depo headlights and retrofitting the hella evox-r projectors has made me most happy. Those with morimoto ballasts and bulbs and night driving has become a ton of fun. Highly recommened and was about $550 all inclusive.

Photo taken prior to getting it lined up perfectly.

No mods yet but wanted to give a big
for this thread. Good idea on making the thread and all replies thus far have been informational rather than just B-Session with no data!
I picked up some good ideas and tips on what to avoid.
Subbed because I want to see how this grows.

I get a little more conservative in modifications with every Evo I've owned. There's a point where civility gets eroded to the point that it loses its appeal as a DD and gets relegated to expensive weekend toy. I hate that, so I won't do it ever again.
The worst offender with that was my VIII. A heavy aftermarket clutch and cams that idled poorly were very annoying. On the X, run stock clutch, and aftermarket stock frame appearing turbo of your choice on 93 octane and long life with lots of performance.

I haven't made any mods to my Evo yet but on my STi, overall I learned that you get what you pay for. Stay away from cheap brands like prosport. My Evo will only get premium brands like AMS, ohlin, akrapovic
