Counterfeit/Fraud OEM Evo shift knob?? NEED HELP!!!

I purchased a supposedly OEM Evo X OEM shift knob for the MR (Aluminum/Leather Shift Knob) which is a very expensive piece from an out of country ebay seller.

The threading that is glued inside the shift knob is too large compared to the stock threading so when I try to install the shift knob it spins freely and does not thread into the shifter. And also the threading appears to be glued by a 5 year old toddler. And the part that says "Lancer Evolution" is not centered in the shift knob. It is slightly higher towards the top of the shift knob.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to provide some photos of the inner threading of the knob and the "lancer evolution" so I can compare it to the one I received. I want to report this guy to ebay for selling counterfeit items, but I want to make sure my findings are correct first.

Thanks in advance!

OMG, I had the same problem. I bought the MR shift knob from some craig down in La Jolla, California and that **** didn't fit. The threading is too large.

Buy from dealer or vendor from forum, good luck on that one. Rate the seller bad.

Out of curiosity, what made you think that the original-equipment manufacturer (OEM) for the shift-knob on our cars is located in Malaysia? Or do folks just treat the acronym "OEM" as some kind of generalized "it should fit" label?

I know that raised a red flag, but the eBay listing said OEM. I've never had a problem on eBay before. On an update, I filed a claim with eBay and reported him for selling counterfeit items. He wrote me a private message on eBay saying he would refund me 100, but he would not refund the 50 dollars for shipping! And he wants me to pay out of my pocket to ship his fake shift knob back to Maylasia! So I will continue to fight this until I get full refund.

Good luck to you. This is the exact reason I try to mostly deal in person.

Pretty easy though. Open up a case and provide pictures and eBay will side with you 100000%.

The seller is adamant the item is real! Here is our back & forth conversation on ebay forum:

Seller's message:
"Item is not a fake. Item is for manual transmission vehicles. Your car is not compatible. Please return the item and we will refund cost of the item only. Shipping fee cannot be returned."

Seller's message:
"Buyer declined my offer through email message. Refund should not be given. Item description clearly states that the buyer had 1 to 2 weeks to let us know any issues for returns/refunds. Buyer received item on March 22 according to the USPS tracking service. Buyer waited approximately one month to file a claim."

You have responded to the seller. Apr 23, 2014 at 1:55 PM
Your message to the seller:
"Actually sir you are wrong. The shift knob you sold me claiming to be a genuine OEM Mitsubishi shift knob is a counterfeit item. First off Mitsubishi is a Japanese company. The box you mailed the counterfeit shift knob in had Chinese words on it, which when translated the first Chinese words is the company's name, the following three words means limited edition, & the last two words mean gear part. If this was a genuine OEM Mitsubishi part in would be in a Mitsubishi box with Japanese words on it with it's original installation instructions that all mitsubishi accessory parts come with. Your counterfeit item did not come with any of this. Second, this shift knob is specifically made for the twin clutch automatic transmission in the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2008-2014. Which is what my car is. This shift knob is NOT made for manual transmission as you are claiming it to be. Hence there being no gearing numbers on the top of the shift knob which is found on manual shift knobs.

Your message to the seller:
"Third of all, The fact that your counterfeit shift knob has the wrong threading size causing it to spin freely on the base and not connect to the vehicle which it was specifically designed for by mitsubishi is reason enough that your shift knob is in a counterfeit item. Otherwise it would mate right up like Mitsubishi designed it to do from the factory. Please stop playing games with me and refund me the entire amount include shipping. That is the least you could do. I don't think it's even fair that I have to pay out of my pocket to ship a counterfeit item back to Maylasia, but if that is what ebay decides than I will follow ebay's policies."

Seller's message:
"Once again the item is not fake. We have installed this item with absolutely no problems. You waited approximately a complete month before filing the claim. You had 14 days since the arrival of the item on March 22 to file any complaints or suspicions for returns. "

You have escalated the case to eBay Customer Support. Apr 25, 2014 at 1:08 PM
Your message to eBay Customer Support:
"I'm not going to argue with you anymore. I have been on ebay for a very long time and have almost 500 feedback with 100% positive rating. You sold me a counterfeit item and all I want is my money back and to be done with this."
