Yeah so I'm supposed to lose 50 dollars plus whatever it costs me to ship it back to Malaysia. Because this guy sells me a fake shift knob.

As much as I don't like folks who sell what we call in my family "plastic crap from China" (which doesn't always come from China, but you get the idea), the seller does have a point. Buying a "shift knob" for a GSR when you have an MR was not going to turn out well, no matter what.

That shift knob is made for the MR, not gsr. Not sure where you got your info from. Plus nor does he state anywhere in the listing whether it's for manual or automatic.

I got my information from a process known as "deduction." The item was listed as fitting a large number of Mitsus, including base Lancers. Since base Lancers never have SSTs and the knob for an SST is different from the knob for manuals, I deduced that the knob was never meant to fit your car.

But that doesn't excuse selling fakes. I'm just pointing out that a little bit of effort before clicking "buy now" is usually worth it.

Actually, having owned a Ralliart and an Evo GSR, I can confirm that the threads are identical on both for the shift knob.

I've made myself a shift knob for each and the threads for both are M10 X 1.25, so even if he had ordered the knob for a GSR and put it on his MR, it would fit, but would have the gears on top.

I also did fully read the listing. And the listing never stated it's specially made for a manual or automatic. On an update eBay sided in my favor and said I will be issued a full refund, but I will have to pay to ship it back to him and provide tracking info. Now my only problem is eBay tells me to ship back to him at an address in Puerto Rico, but the seller sent me a private email & send to ship it back to Malaysia. So I'm not sure what to do?

Even the aluminum shift knob direct from Mitsubishi has a plastic sleeve glued inside it. The first winter after I bought my 08 GSR the glue gave out and I went to shift and the knob fell off in my hand. Your best bet is to just buy an aftermarket all metal knob that has the threads in the metal.

Here's my advice. 1. ignore whether it fits and focus on it being a fake; it is easier to demonstrate that some guy in Malaysia or PR is not the OEM than it is to prove that the knob doesn't fit all cars listed in the ad. 2. if eBay has the power to get you your money back, do whatever they tell you to do; I would not ship it back to the seller unless there was at least a hold on the refund money.

Always ship to where ebay or paypal tell you to. Otherwise, no guarantee they will give you refund later.
