CMC Recall finally done! review
CMC Recall finally done! review
Just figured I would post a quick review of the factory recall CMC replacement. I finally went and had it done last week. After about 5 months with the Comp Clutch Stg3 I felt like the stock CMC was struggling under traffic style driving or holding the clutch in for an extended time. I was getting worried that it was going to give out and leave me stranded.
It's been about 5 days now and I notice a significant difference. First thing I noticed was the much cleaner and consistent engagement point, I also have the clutch slip pill removed which helps with the feel of the clutch. It also takes less leg to press push the clutch through its full travel. It's much better in traffic, easier to go in and out of gear. I also feel more confident when moving through gears quickly, it hasn't stuck through any gears so far, unlike the stock setup which always felt like it was a millisecond slower then I was.
All in all I am glad I had this done, I'm more glad I didn't spend $300 on a 3rd party unit. Hoping this "Improved" design will last good and long and give me no issues.
I suggest anyone who has not had this done and is eligible to stop procrastinating and get'er done.

After I got mine done (about 3 hours with an ecu flash recall done as well) and it felt AMAZING for about the first week. So much smoother engagement and it would catch right off the floor! Just amazing. Then it soon faded and I was left with the same old clutch feel with partial lift to get it to engage. I had a similar experience when I had my clutch replaced. Felt the great for a while then went back to its old ways.
Let us know if it still feels the same after a few weeks! I would like to know if I should re-bleed the lines.

Safety Recall Affecting Certain 2008 – 2013 Lancer Evolution – Clutch Master Cylinder
On September 18, 2013, MMNA submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a Defect Information Report regarding certain 2008 – 2013 Lancer Evolution vehicles built from December 12, 2007 – March 5, 2013. Due to an insufficient bonding strength of clutch master cylinder components, separation may occur, resulting in fluid leakage. This condition results in the inability to engage or disengage the clutch, limits the ability to shift the transmission into or out of a gear, and can create a no start condition once the vehicle comes to a stop.
In November, you will receive a formal/official dealer notification from MMNA regarding the above safety recall. You are receiving this advance, informal letter because:
1. NHTSA will announce the recall on their website shortly after receipt of our Defect Information Report, and MMNA wants to assist you in handling any customer inquiries you may receive regarding this recall.
In the event you receive any direct customer inquiries regarding this issue, please feel free as necessary to refer them to the MMNA Customer Relations Hotline at (888) 648-7820. We appreciate your patience while we make the necessary preparations to launch this recall.
Sincerely,
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc

They also did some reflash. I don't really know the details on that.
My clutch feels fine. Its nice and firm. It engages even a little too hard as its hard for me to make really smooth gear changes. Stock clutch still too.
Pretty sure its just the CMC unit and they have to bleed the system to do so.
