Exhaust question

I just got my evo yesterday, looking underneath I see no muffler, just the pipe coming off what looks like the catalytic converter. Now I know I'm new to the car but shouldn't there be a muffler?

I can't see what you're looking at from here.
But I Googled "stock Evo X exhaust" for you and found:

Yes there should be a muffler. Did you buy it from a dealer?

Sounds like you bought your Evo from a private seller... If so I would suggest going back to that individual and demand the muffler...

If you bought it from a dealership then just go and ask.... you might get a new one

Or this can be your excuse for buying a new exhaust!!

You have an aftermarket exhaust which is a straight pipe without a resonated muffler. You're fine, looks like a 3" exhaust

Well like the title says newbie so I'm learning. Not really sure what I'd be looking at, but would it have a test pipe on it?

It would easy to trade this for a stock exhaust (plus $$) if you wanted to...

I assume it is loud and drones...

Looks like the CP-E Austenite single exit, no muffler. It's a well made exhaust, though I haven't heard it without the muffler before.

Just to be clear, if you have a CAT on the car then it is not a test pipe. It would be a mid pipe coming from the CAT to the back, where your muffler should be.

In other words you have half of a CAT Back Exhaust System.

Test pipes would completely replace the CAT. Might want to take a look and see if they ripped out the guts of the CAT and just left you with an empty hull. To get rid of the airflow restrictions of the CAT without buying an entire turbo back exhaust systems.

In this case the dealer would most likely have to replace that for you as they cannot sell a car without a CAT.

Then you can take the CAT off and sell it to buy a testpipe and muffler!!!! hahahahaha
