GREAT Infant Seat for Evo X owners

Hey guys,

My wife and I have our first little one due in September. We are planning on buying her a Nissan Xterra in a few months, but until then, we'll be using the Evo X to get around. My wife has a scion TC but we've heard that 2-door cars are a pain in the a$$ when you have a kid.
Anyway, as SOME of the forum members are aware, finding child/infant seats that fit in the Evo X can be tricky. We went and tried out SEVERAL seats and many of them presented fitment problems. We ended up getting a Cybex Aton 2 INFANT seat. We never heard of it but turns out that Cybex is a leading brand over in Europe and their crash testing is much more stringent than ours. The seat fits in the Evo like a DREAM. The base is REALLY short and the seat is also nice and compact so it easily allows two adults to ride up front without any worry of having to slide the drivers/passengers seat up far.

You can see pic of seat here: http://cybex-online.com/us/carseats/aton2.html

The seat was $299 and comes with a base (purchased at Bye Bye Baby).
An extra base is $160.00 if you're looking to have multiple bases in multiple cars.

When I get a chance, I'll post pics of the seat installed in the car. I've already had the base installed and went thru trial runs with the seat in the car and it fits great. If anyone has any questions, feel free to shoot them my way.

awesome find. It's always great to have options!

I have the Recaro performance Ride and it's been nothing short of fantastic in my X:
Amazon.com : RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seats, Rose : Convertible Child Safety Car Seats : Baby Amazon.com : RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seats, Rose : Convertible Child Safety Car Seats : Baby

It's convertible which is a HUGE plus and gives me PLENTY of room to let my seat back and even have a recline

Definitely upgrading to the Recaro once she gets a little bigger. Right now we are using the Britax since she has to be in the rear facing recliner

We used the Chicco keyfit 30 and when our daughter transitioned to front facing we went with the recaro prosport. Both great seats.

Congratulations!!

The Chicco seat is pretty nice I just wish there was more room for the passenger when the baby seat is installed. With the slope of the rear seat it needs to be pretty far forward to easily click in and out.

The Recaro seat is great, in fact we have one in my car and wifes car.

We went that route because we wanted the ability to bring our daughter in the house if she fell asleep (Chicco) and went the ProSport because its a harness to booster (20-120lbs).

If mounted in the center, the front seats have more room.

Moot point for me now as that Chicco has been in the basement for several months...

But in my opinion I would marginally agree. Depending on the drivers seating position you may be able to squeak out a bit more room but you just increased difficulty getting the carrier in and out of the car. Plus the center position with the "bump" provides a less adequate surface to mount the base and the center does not have lower latch tie points. You would need to use the inner most latch positions for the outside seats.

It's recommended that the seat is mounted in the center rather than either side to minimize injury in the event of a side collision. This is a little old, but just for reference:

I actually had the opposite experience. I felt the "bump" provided a better surface than the "dip" on either side. Easier to put the bucket in the car as well. However, that aspect was rendered moot when the bucket did not even fit behind the passenger seat. Not without moving the seat back angle all the way forward anyway.

I've used both Recaro's child seats and booster seats for both my girls, they love them and I have nothing but praise for them.

Why do you need to get an XTerra in a few months, are you ditching the EVO? It's a perfectly safe kids car, no need to compromise.

I THINK you may have read my post incorrectly. No way in HELLLLLLLLLLLL I'm getting rid of the Evo. The Xterra is to replace her Scion TC. I am just giving the members here some other options for Car Seats (Infant seats to be EXACT). It's a good looking seat.
