Evo x gsr shipping

Hello, I'm looking to buy a new 2014 Evo x GSR with the Sight and sound package. And was wondering if any of you bought a car from another state and had it shipped or delivered? Does the mitsubishi dealership take care of delivering it? Or should I just spend more and buy it where I live. Any info would help. Thanks

I have heard of dealerships being able to send a car to a closer location but I would imagine you would have to pay a fee.

My situation is a bit different but it may still apply to you. I bought a used evo from an individual buyer back in December. I went on the website uShip and had a job set up in no time (shipping from New York to Ohio for about $475). The company was Montway and they decided to sit on the job since they bid too low and I did not receive my car until LATE January. If you have to go this route I would suggest doing more research on the company you accept.

Again, not sure this will help in your situation but good luck on the shipping and congrats on the new car!

I would try to convince a local dealer to do a trade with another that has the vehicle you are seeking if you can get them to honor the same price.

By the time you pay shipping costs, you are going to defeat the purpose of saving a few bucks otherwise.

One way ticket - drive it back

I flew to Dallas to pick up my old Subaru then drove it home. Saved a ton of money.

This. Remember, there's more than just planes: There's also buses, trains, taxis, etc. When you use a shipper, you are at their mercy. If you have to take off work and they are late and have to try to deliver the next day you could end up missing 2 days of work, or having to push out the time by quite a lot. You could end up waiting months to get the car. Some dealers will charge you a storage fee if the car sits there too long, check that in advance.

I'd just go get the car. You should check out all the different methods of transportation. If you only need to go 100-200 miles, the train can actually be significantly cheaper than a plane or bus, depending on where you live. I live in PA, and to get to Michigan it's $50 cheaper to take the train instead of a bus. It's nearly $150 cheaper than a plane.

Calculate all your expenses to get the car back home. This includes transportation to pick up the car, gas to drive the car back, and if you had to take off work any earnings lost by doing so. Add this all up, add it to the price of the car. Figure out if the new numbers make it worth it, and if so, proceed with your plan.

Example: Say the MSRP is 38k. A local dealer took off 1.5k, making it 36.5k. You found a far away dealer willing to do 35.5k. You estimate it would take 1k to go get the car back to your house (travel to dealer [$500] + gas to get back [$200] + earnings lost [$300]). This makes the new cost of the car 36.5k. They are the same price, so it makes no sense to do it. On the other hand, if they were offering to do 35k on the car, you'd save $500. At that point you need to weigh if that is worth all the hassle of going to get it.

Just run the numbers, and then you will be able to make an informed decision.

Edit:

Also, before you go fretting over $100 here or $200 there, at the current average interest rate for a 48 month car loan (3.24%), you'll spend $2,363 in interest on a $35k 48 month loan or $2,959 on a 60 month loan. Putting more down, or paying the loan off sooner, generally saves you more than excessive haggling with a dealer. Remember to haggle interest rates too, unless you are coming in with your own financing. If you do have your own financing (or are paying cash) do not tell the dealership that until after you've negotiated the purchased price of the car. Remember: The dealership makes money off of financing the vehicle too, and will try to sell you the loan at a higher interest rate than the bank actually will accept. They get to split that profit with the bank, so be careful.

Edit:

Another thing, you should also consider your situation if you took the money you were going to spend to get the car and put it as a down payment. $1000 down in the above 48 month example would save about $70 in interest over the life of the loan. It would also decrease your monthly payment by $22. In some situations, it may be far more worth it to pay more for the car, but have a lower payment and less interest paid over time.

yeah ive done that

when i bought my last X from SoCal Mitsubishi, I actually hired a tow truck/flatbed to pick it up at the dealership in Anaheim, then meet me in a parking lot in Las Vegas. I flew to vegas and drove it home.

If the tires don't touch the ground in Anaheim, no CA tax!

Dealers move and trade cars between themselves all time, you might get lucky and the dealer has a car carrier coming close to your location.

Thanks for the help! The only dealer that has a WW GSR with the S&S Package is asking way more then the msrp price for it. Might just have to buy the car without the S&S package.

My MR is set to be delivered to my dealership Friday. They took care of everything, found exactly what I was looking for, truck delivery, etc.

Just be willing to travel, the S&S package is a must imo.

Even if you buy here in Houston, worst case you have a nice road trip home. There are 11 on the lot at the dealership I bought from and they were very willing to deal:

Expand your area for getting the car, screw anything California and there abouts.

I think I might have to travel in order to get the car the way I want it, at a good price. I test drove it a few days ago and fell in love with the car.

One more question, did any of you call before heading to the dealership to negotiate the price of the car, that way there would be no tricks up their sleeves. And save the hassle of having to drive back home with no new car?

No no no, have a FIRM commitment, even wire them a downpayment once you agree on price. The internet and being remote is your friend.

My advice:

- Get them to agree to price
- Get them to agree they won't wash or prep the car in any way (you don't want them ruining your paint, trust me on this)
- Once settled on a price and terms, go get your own financing and see if you can get a great rate. Then cut them a check and go pick up your car. If you can avoid financing with them, do it, that's the last chance they have to hide costs in your car, when THEY do the financing.

Go from there.

Personally I'd drive 1500 miles easily to get a few thousand off. You break in the car on a nice little trip, and you easily save what you spent in gas to get there and drive back.

Good luck and post pictures when you find / decide on one!

What i did is i negotiated the price and had my bank print out the check for the dealer and that way there is no way for them to try to really pull any funny business because the check is already printed! At least it was good for me there was no problem once i got there the initial negotiation was a hassle though.
