Yeah some cops are just ****** like that. Got pulled over one time for having my fog lights on during the day. Anyways take em to court but don't expect great results unless you lawyer up... and my advice is unless you want to become a target of them, don't file a complaint

That's part of the problem. What should come out of your mouth aren't answers to the cops questions, but rather questions after questions. This sort of nonsense is why the US continues to be a police state.

Nonsense, if a PUBLIC SERVANT oversteps his boundaries, you must file a complaint. YOU are paying their wages and they serve YOU.

He didn't say answer the cops questions. He said the cop gets yes sir/no sir/three bags full, sir. as in, the time to fight is in court, not pulled over on the side of the road in the dark by yourself.

the more memorable you make yourself to the cop the more he/she will recognize you as someone who will be in court and the more ready he will be to respond to your counters. you want him to think you're just another sheep ready to pay the fine without question. Then, when you're putting the screws to him in court and he starts lying and changing his story to cover his *** (as we all have seen them routinely do), the judge will recognize it and chastise him for it (as my judge did to my lying and story changing female Arlington VA cop).

do you want to be right or do you want to win? you want to rage against the machine, on the street, with one of its cogs? that's just dumb.

I understand the fact that i should've just responded with yes sir, no sir, but i was in some shock when he said it was obstructing my view. I also understand that when you make yourself less memorable, its better. But i'll be in court for the speeding, not the wing obstructing my view.

Just curious, wjamyers, you mentioned above the officer lying and changing his story. Do they actually do that, lie under oath? Because someone actually told me that same thing, if i say the officer was here outside the vehicle and then he was here pulling me over .4 miles away, if the officer says i was never there in the first place. He would be lying, but he may very well do that. at that point i lose.

The problem is the court will usually believe the officers word over yours unless they catch him in a lie that you can prove.

Does the OP's car still have both wing mirrors?*

- - - -

*if you're wondering why I would ask such a (silly) question, it's because the rules concerning obstructing the view through the rear window do not apply when the car has two wing mirrors

Yes, it happened to me in Arlington, VA.

Cop pulled me over for 15 over the speed limit. Paced me. I went to court to challenge speedo calibration after reading about it on the internet. She didn't have her records in order showing calibration within last 6 months. As soon as this came up in court she changed her story, "but" she said "you were doing 20 over the limit, I was cutting you a break" (a lie, I knew I had an unknown car behind me and I was very deliberately only doing 15 over for that exact reason). The judge yelled at her and "case dismissed".

I was pretty shocked that a cop would perjure herself for a petty-*** speeding ticket. Now I believe it is routine police procedure.

me personally, I'd only hire a lawyer for a reckless driving ticket.

even then, I did that last time (only ticket in past 10 years was reckless) and watching all these people getting the same deal I got without paying $700 for a lawyer, I felt a bit of a chump.

My friend got into a similar issue with you. But he did get caught speeding and excessive acceleration. The cop gave him a speeding ticket then on top of that a tint ticket even though he had his prescription and on top of that loud exhaust ticket.

Fight it.

Because when you are WRONG. Everyone is there filing their complaints against YOU.

Now it' your turn. YOU are RIGHT. For you to let this go means you are giving up a major chance to stand up and rub authorities face in the fact that they are WRONG.

I wouldn't possibly give up a chance like that......

No I would not hire a lawyer for this, its not a serious infraction and it'll be easy to prove your side. I'm sure the da will drop that charge on your first court date when you get to talk to them. the speeding ticket your stuck with though but they'll prob offer a plea bargain for it like defective headlamp or something.

Found some similar topics on here with people who have actually lost due to the obstruction which is redonkulous. You should be able to win outright since the car is legal in the US. If they were to say otherwise in court they would basically be stating Mitsubishi of America made some illegal cars which I highly doubt they'd do. On another note that officer has no merit as to if you were speeding or not if he was on the side with another vehicle. He probably didn't even have his speed gun out to verify anything.
