Replacing my eclipse, need some advice
Hello guys! New to the forums here... But came from club4g.org
I currently drive a 4g eclipse right now but thinking about trading it in because i have a kid on the way, and eclipse backseat was tight and unpractical for my family.
Im on the fence between an evo x and a ram truck.
In leaning towards the evo cuz i feel im still too young to drive a truck. And i want a manual car
How was the ride on an evo? Is it harsher ride compared to my eclipse? Cuz everytime wifey rides at my car i had to drive really slow. My car's suspension is still stock.
Thanks!

Congrats on the rugrat. Kids are awesome (I have 4).
She'll hate your EVO suspension too probably.
I just got out my 08 dodge cummins. I don't miss Dodge auto trannies. The cummins is easy to build up. Mine got up and went, got good mpg, rode nice, but even ATS has a hard time making parts last for the 68RFE.
If I had to buy another truck, I'd go twin turbo duramax with an ats allison.

It depends on your financial situation. The Evo is stiff for sure the back seats do not fold down, unless you DIY the car can be expensive to maintain. So if you don't have that much money or a good career this is not the car for you.Children are expensive unless your on welfare
As for the evo payment, it cost a couple of bucks more than what i pay currently on my eclipse and it gains me : 4doors, 4wd and turbo4
Folding back seats doesnt matter to me, as long as i can fit a rear facing seat on the back, a stroller and some kid stuff
Gotta start saving money for downpayment while waiting on the canadian gsr that has handling package and sss

between the two I would choose the evo as a better family car... but your wife will hate the ride as it has stiff suspension.. and while preg she'll probably not like the seats either. but it does have enough room for the car seat BUT there is NO room for a stroller or any big items in the trunk...
I saw a thread from here that fit a child seat in the back and a folded stroller as well on the back where you put ur feet when sitting but if it doesnt im just gonna borrow parents suv
Im gonna go with the evo then thanks guys!
I just gotta wait a few more month cuz they going to make a canadian gsr have leather/suede recaro, hid, fast key and some more

My wife has a 08 4G GT.
Interior is remarkably similar as far as materials used and the way controls are laid out.
The ride is harsher, especially if you compare it to the GSR (MR rides a bit softer than GSR, but still more stiff than 4g Eclipse)
EVO is more fun to drive in every way. Acceleration, braking, cornering, driver feedback, ect. are all vastly superior. AND you can actually SEE out the sides and rear, something that will be very unfamiliar to you coming from a 4G Eclipse.
Consider the alternative. A dodge truck?? Rolling coal > turbo AWD???? no way.
or... consider the Ralliart Sportback...
Plenty of storage and decent ride...
Only comes with TC-SST (which my wife drives in auto/normal and I drive in manual/sport).
if you need near-EVO powah! - it is only a coupla' grand away
Just something to consider between EVO and truck...

They don't make the eclipse anymore, so if you are close to paying it off I'd tough it out and keep it, then buy a second car after that. Of course, if you are looking at the evo, this is the last year for that too, so, rock... meet hard place.
I've never owned a 4G Eclipse, but I have a 3G Eclipse Spyder and I've owned a 1G eclipse as well. The ride should be harsher than the 4G Eclipse, or about the same at best. You can soften it up a bit, the MR is better I hear. This is what test drives are for. You can always get a GSR and buy someones MR stuff that they are replacing, pretty cheaply.
That said, safety wise, the evo is going to beat a lot of stuff. S-AWC, all those airbags, the extra grippyness, the ability to get out of the blind spots of semis quicker... it's a long list. In the winter (with winter tires) it's a tank. Playing around in the snow in a parking lot, it took a lot to make it lose grip, just felt like I was driving on wet roads in a regular car.
It's hard for some people to look at a trunk and think "what could I fit in there", even in person. So, I took this pic:

Random crap I got from Sam's Club, but it gets the point across. It's small, but you can still fit stuff.
Now, with all that said, the down sides are:
Hope that helps.
P.S. Trucks and babies don't mix well, not as well as 4 door sedans, anyway.

Now, with all that said, the down sides are:
- The engine/drone is loud on the highway. If you are one to blast the music this is a non-issue. You can easily drive it in a "quiet" manner sub 55-60MPH.
- The interior could be better, but it's no worse than the 4G Eclipse.
- It's expensive to maintain if you pay someone else to do it.
- It's still pretty pricey to maintain if you do it yourself, but not prohibitively so.
- The ride is on the rough side and pretty raw, but some people like that (including me).
- You'll be tempted to mod it, and that can eat cash fast.
- Mitsubishi thought of everything, including making the paint as thin as possible to save weight.
- If you get one with Recaro seats, your wife will hate you while she's pregnant. Probably still will after, too.
Hope that helps.

First congratulations on the baby! I was in a similar situation although I didn't know I had a baby boy on the way until I purchased my car. The ride is decent in terms of what you're purchasing. In my opinion I would opt for the truck due to the fact that you're going to have a new born that evo's going to bounce in the back every so often and that's not good for your baby. Also there's limited space and you're going to have to have the seat rear facing before you can go forward facing. This will make it cramped. The trunk can only hold a stroller and maybe a few smaller things. Opt for the Evo if it's a second car for you or at least when your baby gets older and can face forward. My son's recaro seat is front facing (He's 2) and he kicks my seat all the time (6'3) Limited space as it is when we take my car out.
For the sake of the child I would opt for the truck imo or even a mid sized suv RDX, FX35. All decent rides =) ]\
