Question Buying 08 GSR , have some questions

My current car (2010 Lancer Ralliart) decided it was time for the SST to stop working. and mitsu wants $12,000(F**K THAT) so im looking to trade in for 08 GSR.

23k
i could expect around 4-5k for ralliart
so between 18-19k for evo

it has 71k miles
service history good
car-fax clean
minor upgrades
-piping
-intake
-boost gauge
not sure what else

but it has had 3 owners and my only worry is with the clutch , should i expect that the clutch had been replaced at some point , or should i assume its a stock clutch.

what could i expect for an insurance payment ,
im 20 , i pay my parents directly so i can be listed on their insurance for the discount. never had any sort of accident . been driving for 4.5 years

I would appreciate any input.

23k for a 08 with 71k miles seems a bit hight to me. i got my 2012 with 48k miles for that.

Most likey its probably not on the stock clutch or at least not the "original" one. but even if it goes out on you its no where near as expensive as the sst's to fix. Probably run you around 1500 to replace.

insurace im gonna guess is gonna cost you quite a bit givin your age. id guess around $200. best thing is to call and check with your insurance first before buying.

im 19 and pay every 6 months for insurance, i pay $740 and i was 18 at the time of being registerd. no accidents, no tickets. i would assume its on stock clutch because if you assume its on a good clucth youll be surprsied when it takes a dump on you and starts slipping.

Thanks , i appreciate your replies.

i know 23k is alot for 08 with 71k, but im just gonna pull the method i did with my ralliart, look at all the options the dealer has listed and call them out on the bull****.

they had my ralliart with recaros , rockford fosgate , brembo brakes and hids , which it had none of i got their 19k price down to 15k .

also ive had my RA for like a year and have only paid a few thousand on it . so anything more than 3k for trade in im technically getting more money back , and the only reason ive held back was because i have a friend who is 22 with a 2011 gsr and he pays like 550/mth for insurance on top of the 500 car payment,

the 08 gsr also has lower monthly payments and a lower interest rate and im not really worried about the miles with the full service history

if you only paid on your RA for a year your gonna be really upside down on a trade in.. I dont think your understanding the trade in value. If they offered you 5k and you owe 13k your gonna owe the price of the GSR plus the 8K diffrence.

why dont you just get the ra fixed than sell it or trade it in? you can can get it fixed for a lot less then 12k you were quoted at the dealership. find a good shop to remove it for you and send it out to get rebuilt for around 2k and then reinstalled probably cost you around 3-3500 total to complete with cost of rebuild.

http://www.jackstransmissions.com/co...t-full-rebuild

theres other shops to, just a quick link to show an option.

You can have a place look at and possibly repair your SST transmission. I'd check that out before doing all this and losing a ton of money because your car doesn't work. Curious if you could share what led to your failure? I have an SST so would like to know things to avoid...

I dot want to get rid of my RA, but i also don't want the SST anymore because of the recent events , i have already checked out jacks transmissions, and that's probably the easiest and cheapest solution and i know the upgraded clutch packs would be less likely to fail , problem is i have around 1 and a half months before i have to leave for texas . and idk how long its gonna take a shop to pull everything, send it out , wait for it , have them send it back , then put it back together . i really want to keep my ralliart but im restricted for how long i can wait.

Man if you're coming to Texas, Kozmic motorsports in Houston is one of the best SST shops in the world. You could just tow it or if it is driveable, bring it to them?

Good luck

Kosmic wants 8k for rebuild and upgraded clutches
Shep wants 5500
jacks is only 3300.

it might even be a blown tcase.
heres what happened

i have habit of using ebrake when parking from previous cars

let mom use car for school run

she drives 3 blocks with the ebrake on

stops to pick up other kids

idling on uphill slope tries to pull away

car is revving 4-5k rpms(so she says) prob redline

says smoke started coming from front tires. LIES , i dont have enough power.

walked 3 blocks in in -3 F (-15C ... i think)

started car , proceed to hear a squeal that only a hellspawn from Dante's inferno could make(noise matches rpms)

reverse doesnt grab. neither does 1st

had a friend help me push the car closer to curb , forgot it was in reverse, so deff no clutch grabbing as it felt like neutral

- my assumptions
- clutches grinding on something
- input/output shafts over torqued(engine might be screwed as well.
-or blown tcase

any other suggestions on what it might be,

couldnt read the code yet because the first company that came to tow it didnt have flatbed tower. second company comes tomarrow And the games begin.

^ ouch.

Price seems a bit high even with your trade. Especially with the miles. I would love to sell my stock 2008 with 55k on it for anything close to $20k.

Dont just settle on sub par. You mentioned time is a factor. I rushed into mine. No regrets, but I could have done better.

well the bluebook value is for the 08 gsr i looked at , is like 22k, so id have to get further insight on the mods done .

i bought my 2010 ralliart with 45k miles for 16k with 2-3k worth of aftermarket parts, and my buddy went to look at 09 RA completely stock with 70k miles and they wanted 18k for it so im deff happy with my purchase, apart from what i assume is a blown tranny and acd pump, but i saw that mitsu extended their acd pump warranty to 10yr,100k miles (160k km for canada)

get it looked at by a shop other than the one you're buying from!
