Evo Noob please help

So I bought my beautiful new white gsr a week ago and I had a few questions. I plan on doing a lot of the maintance myself or at least learn. I already plan to do my own oil change and tire rotation every 3k miles. But what is this I'm reading about changing fluids every 5k is that like tranny fuild or something? Again this is my first turbo car do any help will be good. Also when you guys got it new did the Rev needle jump a little here and there in idle?

5k interval? Sounds like engine oil! Transmission fluid lasts much longer than that.

The best thing to do is get a used oil analysis done and find out how your engine; transmission and diff fluids are wearing and change accordingly as people have varied driving habits and conditions.

My thoughts on fluids are fluids, washers and filters are relatively cheap; engines, transmissions and diffs are expensive so changing them as often as your wallet can handle and use the best you can afford.

I tend to look for the synthetic 5w30 with the highest flashpoint and highest molybdenum content which means motul 300v

if your car is stock and having the jumping idle then have it check out.

Sometimes the idle would studder on mine when it was stock. If it's a really bad jumping and rough idle check to make sure the hose to the fuel pressure regulator did not come off. It's located right behind the dipstick on the fuel rail. If it is off then just put it back on and put a zip tie around it.

Mitsubishi recommends for the transmission 15k for severe use, 30k for regular use....

Usually it jumps a little at idle when it is warming up at a cold start. Shouldnt be any large change in rpms.

Thank you guys very much! My evo is stock but I installed 2 catch cans for fear of water entry into the engine car is currently 315 miles

. And it only jumps like 1 cm at startup and very very tiny when warming up. I'm thinking of taking the cans off since it was a gift from my friend but it seems horribly cheap any suggestion?

The cheap catch cans im about to remove x.x

1st and foremost, Welcome to the EVO Community!

When it comes to maintenance, i highly recommend following the general maintenance schedule. It was design for our cars in mind.

Royal Purple oil really isn't as crazy different as it really should be. I know many people use AMSoil, and Motul oil. Since my X isn't modified besides my drop in filter and a stage one tune, i just kept with the factor Mobil 1 full syn. They put the sticker on the valve cover, might as well follow it.

In regards to the Jumpy Idle, It seems to be very common in ours during cold start. Of course that varies depending on weather and location, but a simple tune should help smooth that out. I would def. check all the hoses though and ensure everything is tight. Any minor air leak does cause issues in turbo cars. Since your car is pretty new, you can always go in to the dealership to have it checked under warranty too. (just a thought! if you don't fear the stealership)

Again welcome to the Evo community and have blast enjoying your new car!
