WTF do I do?
Sold my evo last week to a guy who seems like he will take really great care of her.
Super bittersweet. It was my dream car for over a decade, and its sad to see her go, but my health has improved tremendously so I cant complain.
If you can't tell, this is my goodbye letter to the evo forum community.
I have been lurking on these forums since 2009. Learned a lot from you guys and met some super chill people.
Thanks for giving awesome, honest, and friendly advice. No other auto forum even comes close.
Maybe one day in the future, I'll get back into an evo (hopefully). Or some electric hybrid monstrosity with an Evo name badge that can barely hold a candle to the original internal combustion engine that was the 4G63 or the 4B11.
I'll continue reading these forums from time to time. (but much less so than I do now)
Even to this day, every time i drive somewhere and see an Evo, I still look.
I cant help but stare (even while i was still in my X)
Maybe I'm crazy, maybe I'm not. But the bottom line is this: the car has been super reliable to me for 69k miles with no issues ( i bet it could last another 100k-160k no problem), It has been sturdy as F*ck, and unrelentingly fun to drive. Its not for everyone, and I don't care how the interior looks. Shifting was fun and engaging and never a chore. Sure a lexus or a Bimer are more luxurious, have more hp stock and are p*ssy magnets to some extent, but are nowhere as satisfying to be in as the evo was to me.
The evo was my car in my youth, and maybe thats why i look at it with such rose tinted glasses.
Being in your early 20s, right out of college, I would pick the evo hands down if i had to do it all over again. Over any bimer, over any benz.
I'll miss this community. I'll miss the car.
See you guys.
Cheers

Buy a second daily and use the Evo as a weekend car. Driving it infrequently and for shorter trips shouldn't aggravate your joints. That's pretty much what I did. Only use the Evo for autocross and short weekend romps.
Well, least let us know what car you bought to replace the Evo
It maybe bitter sweet, but if your health improves because of it, then you made the right decision! Good Luck!

I'm 6'2" 215lb in an '03 Evo. I wouldn't even try driving it with the stock seat. I instead traded my brother's friend for a race seat, not sure of the brand. It's a bucket seat and the bottom pad is a lot lower. The mounts on the bottom are also a lot lower than stock.
It still sucks that the wheel doesn't telescope, and I would have liked a longer middle console elbow rest thing, but with this seat, comfort improved a lot. I even like it better than the 2011 S4 I drove the other day (though my hand hitting my knee might be due to a larger steering wheel). Side supports are spot on. Drove it NYC to Montreal. Then to Quebec City without stopping. I really felt like part of the car, it was awesome.
So anyone having the same issue, I'd suggest trying out a few aftermarket seats.

I'm 6 foot 1 210 lbs and never have had issues. I actually find the seat to be very comfortable and hugs me well. I also have a herniated disc in my neck from sports. you need to be sure to position your *** firmly to the rear of the seat, just as the above mentioned pillows rest, shoulders squared directly inline with where the shoulders of the seat are. move the seat forward or back far enough so your knees don't actually hit. these recaros are racing seats but they're the most simplistic and comfortable racing seat you can possibly have especially as an own option. I would highly reconsider other things in life that may contribute to those health issues than just the seat of the car. like I said I'm about the same build as you. car is unbelievably comfortable for me and it is my DD. just gotta position yourself in it the way it's supposed to be sat in. posture is everything.
Maybe my legs are longer than yours, because the wheel would literally be in my lap in the stock seat. So I'd have to push the seat back to get some room and end up reaching for the wheel.
I've sat in the passenger seat of my Evo and it really isn't a racing seat. The padding is very high up, it feels like a bench seat to me.
Could I have sat with my back all the way into the seat? Maybe. It's been too long without the stock seat for me to remember. But I don't want to drive an Evo with the wheel level with my waist. I want it closer to my shoulder height, and that's what I have with the bucket seat, and I much prefer that.

oh sorry I didn't see you replaced it already. it's weird I was really paying attention to it today while driving, my knee does graze the bottom left side of the steering wheel while shifting but not always. but I don't really feel uncomfortable in the seat at all. I guess it was just something to get used to I don't even notice it usually. I've had the car two years now. just a little different than you're usual daily driving car seat I guess. this was a picture taken with my phone under my chin. steering wheel pretty much level with my shoulders and just over my knees by about two inches.
