Weird issue I saw when buying my Evo today

So I decided to pull the trigger and got a 2015 evo x MR, no recaros but the stereo is nicer i guess

I had my heart set on a white one, but here is the thing, during the test drive the automatic gear kept changing from Dx to x in manual mode very, very rapidly. Say if I am on third it would go from 3 to D3 to 3 very rapidly. The shifts were also way slower than expected.

I went in, thought about it and asked for another one, this time in blue with a bunch of extras (LED, engine cover...) all of which dont matter to me but hey...

This time, when I put it in auto, it stayed in Dx mode and just drove normally. If I put it in manual mode, it just showed the x number on the dash. The changes were also lighting quick and crisp.

What the heck is wrong with the first evo?? The sales guy first kept saying its just because of the manual / sports mode, it would be fine. Then when I insisted something was wrong after the second test drive they caved and didn't brought it up again (I got a nice deal on the car because of it, well not as nice as I hoped but hey...)

Anyone would hazard a guess on why the heck would the gearbox not decide on how to shift, and to switch between automatic and manual very rapidly in a car with (I specifically noted in case if it was a demo car / crazily tested car) 11.3 miles at the start of the test drive.

That is a shockingly low amount of miles...

P.S. do you guys wear in your evo for 200 miles of saintly driving or more like 2000? Or more?

Follow breakin per manual. 2014 MR here with 22k or so on it, flawless car never any issues. No transmission issues you speak of, probably good you left that one on the lot.

hmm ok 600 miles under 5k rpm, i can do that

will likely make a print out of all the rules and stick that to the dash to remind me

so no one else, even with an old car ran into the problem i saw with the first evo?

i tried to google for evo geabox issues but came up with nothing... did i found a one of a kind car / problem lol?

You bought the one that was clearly having the problem or the one that felt perfect? Hopefully the latter

oh not the former, i had to negotiate a new price and all for the not screwing up one but not the broken one...

i asked them if they can fix it in 3 hours on the spot, they said they are backed up with lots of cars, i told them to switch the cars and give me a deal on it (due to the extra package it contains).

with that being said, it is blue and not white....

oh well

i do still want to know what could possibly cause that tho, from the factory with extremely low mileage... i mean unless the MR twin clutch can go wrong that quickly....

The blue looks fantastic, and that's from me owning a white one

I think you made the right decision...

yap, tested both in auto mode (Dx) and manual (x) mode.

the good car just stays in that mode, with the x changing number corresponding to what gear i'm in as normal, like D1, D2, D3, or 1, 2, 3.

with the bad car, it just jumps between the two modes crazily fast in manual mode, and somewhat fast in automatic mode. With sluggish gear change in manual mode.

with the sales men there, i didn't wanted to take a video but it was bizarre.
