Had some back issues and it was getting harder for me to shift (nerve block left leg) so sold it. I was determined to never get a X, especially an MR. In normal auto, it felt OK. In s-sport manual I quickly got use to it. I've had 5 speeds my entire life and my MR is the best of both worlds.Big power is nice and even though it was as reliable as I could make it daily driving was more hectic than anything. Daily and my wife can drive-MR hands down for me. A weekend fun play car, a built IX SE. Tough choice to make over the Internet, check them out and see what you like. Good luck.
Lots of good advice. Thanks

If you like to drag race, the EVO isn't the car for you. This is much more an autocross car. Wonderful car, but unless you brake launch it off the line it's very boggy off the line due to being a 2.0 turbo.

Get a new Mustang if that's your goal. Even the base model is fantastic imo from having checked them out when my buddy bought one.

I have considered this option, but I have this preconceived notion of what a mustang owner is and I cannot personally buy one. Same with the C7 Corvette. I was also very close to getting an E92 M3, but cost of ownership and modifications is a deal breaker. I really like the tuning potential of the evo platform. My current GTI is fun but FWD is a seriously limiting factor. I can take that little beast to the track and repeatedly put down faster times in a 1/8 than most 5.0 Mustangs (mostly due to poor driving by the majority of them). Having less than half the engine, but being quicker makes me very happy.

Well if you are planning on launching etc. then I would say get the MR as it has a built in launch control. Messing up a launch on a GSR is easy to do and can be very costly if you do it wrong and blow up your 5k transfer case lol.

I would consider the evo x a better drag car than autocross car but thats just me lol. Skip the MR at this point. You seem to want power. Buy the gsr, whether it be an X or VIII/IX and enjoy. You can make nice power on the stock blocks and surprise people..although fast evos are not very surprising anymore lol.

Don't buy an MR if you're going to be launching IMO. I think that is a good way to wear the most expensive part on the evo, the SST. Plus the rear diff isn't going to hold up launching too many times.

This is what I am thinking. The GSR can handle 400+ whp easily with a better clutch. The SST is questionable from what I have read getting up into that range of power.

Do remember this Evos were built for WRC rally territory!
2.0 T AWD on gravel, sliding drifting out of a corner and boosting away, left nothing but smoke and dirt... So get an american muscle and leave this 4 times world rally champion along =P

You mistake me friend, I only suggested the mustang due to his expecations and goals for the car. As a 'driver' I have had a bunch of Mustangs but I love the EVO over any car I've owned before. The only mustang I'd consider over this would be the GT350 because...well it's pretty sweet.

But that says a lot about this car! Handling and driving feel, especially in the MR (I owned a GSR and MR back to back, 2014) I can't describe how fun it is when you really lay into it. High speed shifting + high rpm turbo = delicious.
