First oil change

When should I use the free oil change coupon that came with my EVO X
At 3000 miles or is that way late ?
Also if the car is stock do I go with OEM recommended lubricants
Cheers

It's always recommended to do the first oil change at ~1000 miles to get the metal out, then every 3k miles. IIRC, free oil change coupon is the conventional oil, you need to pay some bucks for the synthetic oil.

So what's the consensus on synthetic oil, which one do I use for a stock EVO X
Is Mobil 1 an option or not quite right for the MIVEC engine
Thanks !!

Mobile 1 FOR SURE. Go synthetic no matter what they say.

In the Subaru forums, ppl have said that the mobile 1 is crap for the WRX or STi and they swear by the Rotella T6 but I used Pennzoil Ultra synthetic. But most ppl in the Evo forums recommend mobile 1 so that's what I used on my last oil change. I think I used the Extended performance one.

I used Rotella T6. I believe it was the 5w40 and it's pretty cheap at Walmart. A lot of Evo X owners run it now.

Take a look at all the sti engine blown threads. Almost every single one was using rotella T6.

Lol. I think the engine blowing up has more to do with the same problem those motors have had for years.

Rotella t6 has been used in a lot of sti motors so the fact that there's a lot of threads about blown sti motors is irrelevant. Do an oil analysis and see which oil is best for you.

I did my first engine and trans fluid change at 1500 miles. Both were pretty dirty with light driving although it was mostly from the break in. Mobil 1 for the engine and redline cocktail for the trans.

Amsoil

its a little up there in price but I like ams oil. I went from my first oil change at the dealership with a paid $50 synthetic upgrade because I didn't want those cheap bastards putting crap into my car, kinda wish I just took that money and did it myself, to hell with paying them to do an easy job that I know i could of done. After that I did 3-3000 royal purple changes which I was content with, leading me to try out amsoil. I felt my car has run best with ams. My next oil change I'm doing at 20k which I waited 5k to do because i don't beat on my car much as I used to and I've been checking the oil and it's been fine but I'm going to try Rotella T6 to see if that was worth try out over Amsoil

I've used Amsoil, Mobil1, Pennzoil and Castrol full synthetic in 5W30 with great results. Brand really doesn't matter. They all work.
