So I had a problem with my aftermarket CMC which has since been replaced with a OEM Evo IX cylinder. When I put fluid in I decided to use the Valvoline synthetic fluid. This was about 2 months ago. Today I installed new pads and stainless steel lines and I found that the fluid in the reservoir was a dark brown. What can this be? The previous CMC always had pitch black fluid come out which is why I replaced it, but the reservoir remained the yellow appearance. Is there something I might be missing?

 

Try Motul or Castro

I am running this right now and I track the car, no problem.

then you have burnt up brake fluid and you need to bleed the whole system to get it all out. it should not be pitch black. it should stay the same color out of the bottle.

 

I googled CMC and the first result that showed up was "Catholic Multicultural Center"

At any rate, the Valvoline fluid is fine, even for spirited use/auto-x. The natural color is a clear, gold color, not sure why your fluid is immediately dark brown already, unless their was residual old fluid still in the system. Another flush and you should be set.

The Valvoline fluid is great bang for your buck, $7 for 32 oz. Castrol SRF is the best fluid hands down, but at $60+ for 32 oz you had better be tracking often for it to matter. I do, so it's the best for me.

 

Yeah I had a feeling something was up. This new clutch master cylinder seems to be a sh*t ton better than the aftermarket one. I'll take a look at the fluid in a few weeks to see if the new Motul changes color.

 

Just change the fluid often, that's the ticket. The SRF is good fluid, but so is Motul, and a bunch of other 480/600 wet/dry temp fluids. The key is to bleed out the old. remember to bleed out the clutch slave too...
