14-15 Evo X
The Evo is a noisy car over all.
But its red lol cop magnet.... Thanks guys for the inputs the more honest opinions the better $35k is alot of money i want to make sure im doing it right buying the best awd on the market... And the ford rs is not an option i just dont like ford lol besides the foxbody and cobra models
Noise is cool i like the raw ralley car feel its not luxury hell i hate the sunroof and the chrome accents
The sound dampening is in the floor and kick panels (at least that is how it was on the 08 and 10). Otherwise, the rest of the car is the same sound wise.
Having owned both a GSR and MR, I can tell you it's all about what you want out of the car. I love having the MR for occasional HPDEs, but still scared of having to rebuild or replace the transmission.
Personally, I love driving in sport or s-sport manual mode. The transmission shifts so quickly, when I tell it to, it's an advantage over other cars.
With that being said, I also love rev-matching going into a corner at high speed and hitting the apex and shifting gears manually. (If you get a GSR, highly recommend SRP Racing pedals for easier rev-matching).
I'm currently looking for another X GSR to build for track days and occasional canyon runs. I'd much rather have the MR, but the cost of the transmission still worries me.

I just got a 2015 GSR a couple weeks ago. I share your disappointment on the missing Recaros, but my advice is to work the best deal you can on the car (and dealership fees), and then use that savings towards a seat swap. Don't let them scare you with the "there are only a few cars left ..." There are still plenty roaming around on dealer lots with various configurations. I paid below TrueCar pricing for mine. Just do your research, be stern about what you're willing to pay and question every line item cost ... or do what I did and bring your wife.
I think a base model MR would be ok without the sound deadening due to the 6th gear, but I like the leather etc that I opted for on my second car. (my 14 GSR was base cloth etc.) MR is maxed and I'd buy the same in the GSR if I liked that better and was deciding today.
Wish I could have both for different reasons lol.
But they aren't tragically problematic... the only downside to the MR is going big power probably isn't a good idea long term. It's just too much for the transmission. Now basic boltons, crank up the power a bit? Go for it, but don't buy an MR with the purpose of building a 500hp EVO. 400hp? Sure, as long as you keep the torque reasonable and have a tuner that specializes in the MR. I am lucky as Kozmic motorsports is in my same city and they are second to none with the MR.
Honestly the MR is very fun, stock, with just a drop in air filter which doesn't require a tune and doesn't impact the warranty. (Cosworth makes one). that alone smooths out a small stumble in the factory tune at around 5000rpms and increases the power from around 225 stock to 240.
Anyway, they are both phenomenal platforms, but yes, if you modify improperly, or have a tuner that knows nothing about the SST transmission work on your car, you can be looking at a world of hurt. In the right hands? No worries as long as not nuts on power. Or just leave it stock levels and enjoy it really wasn't a slouch stock after the filter imo.
Good luck-
