Question COBB stage 3 kit or STM tune?

I recently bought a Evo X , & i would like to give it some soft mods,
*meaning no engine internals just yet*..... "due to this being my daily"

just wondering whatch'a all think about getting a tune from STM or going and get a cookie cutter stage 3 kit from Cobb. Just looking for opinions for &/or against !!!!

I have herd the cobb kit's is a "safe tune". which is easily erasable if a person needs some warranty work being done. The Cobb accessport i would think its not so plug and play as people say.

I would think the Cobb avenue is it not giving your car the potential of what it can be, like a tune from a Well known company LIKE STM. i believe the tunes are one and done is that right ???? Intill the next upgrade anyway

I have friends from each side saying its the way to go. just looking for some info. please respond with all opinions.

Cop: "Those Evos are nice, you got a COBB tune on that? My STI is Stage 2"
Me: ". . ."

It's like your dad trying to hype the Will Smith CD he got at his job's Christmas party.

a tune will always be better then an OTS map.

Ap, I think are mostly for people to far away from tuners, even then I would got with tactrix and get and E-tune before I got an AP.

AP definitely has its advantages as well. You can change maps as you upgrade parts vs paying for another pro tune. You can also monitor all kinds of gauges vs paying for separate gauges. You can also turn right around and sell it for 3-400 when done. Can you sell your used pro tune? You can revert AP map to stock for dealer work then put the map back on right after. If a dealer flashes your pro tune you may be screwed.

Sure a pro tune will get every last drop of power and be better with a GREAT tuner, but a lot of guys F@ck them up too and you might be making multiple trips to see them. Some of the pro tunes I have seen on here come with some disaster stories too.
Cobb is safe. Less power and much safer. It's a toss up for me. I'm still deciding.

Can't ya do both? I guess if you have the funds, would it be possible to buy a AP and put the programs that the pro-tuner does onto the AP?? I think it would make it easier and more convenient to have the pro-tune on backup as well with stock tune on a AP for ease of switching??? Maybe someone could clarify that, as well...

Yes you can have both. I have an AP that I picked up and got a protune on it from English Racing.

I have posted about this before but there are many features of the AP that I like and OTS maps are not one of them.

That's what I thought you could do. To me this would be the ideal application to do, unless you like messing with a laptop. It just seems like the more sensible way to go about it, of course it depends on your funds, 500 for AP and whatever they charge for a tune(s).

Not all tuners will tune the AP. Most of the big names will, but many prefer tuning opensource.

Honestly, once you're tuned for a specific setup, chances are you won't be swapping maps very often. I was tuned on an AP when I got my X for a while, then had my DP and FMIC installed and got re-tuned opensource.

I've never wished I had an AP since. It's just a $500 piece of equipment I don't need. My gauges tell me anything I would need to know, and I'd never flash back to my stock tune with the mods I have anyway lol.

it is definitely more pricey but I like the other features on the AP. Not just swapping maps back and forth. Being able to log on the fly, Anti theft and valet modes have been used many times.
