3.5" vs. 4" Intercooler

Hi guys.

For full bolt-on's (intake, catless turboback, ic piping, protune, 3 port, etc) on stock turbo, would it be more prudent to opt for a 3.5" or 4" IC, ETS, for example.
I track my car sometimes, and wouldn't want it not optimally performing at the stakes of a few hundred dollars...is the 4" overkill for my setup? I'd be around 350whp/350wtq.

Thanks guys.

are you planning on making huge power eventually ( ie. Upgrading turbos, building the engine , etc?)

That's the thing, all signs point to no. It'll stay full bolt ons, stock turbo, pump gas (stock injectors, fp) forever, I believe.
I don't mind dishing out extra bucks for the 4", but if there truly is no point or it is in any way sub-optimal...then question answered!

Or maybe "upgrading" the intercooler isn't even necessary? hmmm...

A bigger intercooler never hurts. And look into the new VRSF 4" Intercooler. Below is my review on it. You can get it for $399, just pm Tiago at VR Speed Factory

The 3.5" is what I put on my car with bolt ons. The 4" might net you a little more power up top but its not likely on the stock turbo. Don't forget we are running our holiday sale until January 4th. The Evo coolers are 20% off!

If you're being dyno tuned it won't make a bit of difference. Airflow over the intercooler isn't nearly enough to see a difference in temps between the 2. Even if you aren't being dyno tuned I doubt you'd see a difference, they are pretty damn effective at bringing temps back down to near ambient.

I would just go with a 3.5" with your setup.

Great advise given here-- one other point to consider and its buried in the forum somewhere is the velocity of air loss due to the intercooler--the bigger the cooler the more air velocity is lost the slower the spool, the less hp made ect. Also, I may be wrong- but doesn't the stock IC support up to 400hpp, and the 3.5 around 600 before cooling the charge becomes an issue.. again, just a thought.
