Hey everyone so I just bought my first ever evo, I've also never dabbled into the tuner car world so I'm a complete noob lol. Anyways I'm looking to do some upgrades to my 2010 x Mr sst, all I'm looking for is reliable yet still enough to put a wrx in the dirt if need be lol I don't really know where to start I have basic mechanic knowledge and common sense but don't know what stock parts will be able to handle after upgrades. And what upgrades will be best to start with. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, and have fun with your Evo. Do LOTS of research on the car before you do anything.

Secondly, please use the search function. There are a thousand threads like what you've just posted.

1) Research your car and know everything about it.
2) Standard bolt-on parts with a solid tune:
- Electronic Boost Control Solenoid (EBCS / 3-port)
- Test Pipe
- Catback exhaust
- Intake
- Wideband gauge
- RELIABLE tune from someone who knows the SST (Open Source)! This is key.

Above is a start, if you can afford it, purchase an upper intercooler pipe (UICP), boost gauge, and oil pressure.

Just make sure you get tuned on open source, not Cobb. Much better for the SST transmission

hmm that is strange that doesn't sound like rod knock sounds like something jarring around weird. My GSR doesn't do that must be something with the transmission possibly.

fellow MR owner here, that sound is completely normal. its just the sound of the transmission. as for mods you can mod it just like a GSR, and for more longevity of the transmission. get a transmission cooler of some kind, theres a few different ones out there and they're all different. i have been running full bolt ons and e85 for about 15000+ miles now. but most importantly is finding a tuner thats experienced with MR's is the most important.

I think the biggest difference, besides a larger turbo, was going to E85. If you can get that where you are I think it's the most bang for the buck.

As far as STI's. I have never had one try anything. 99.9% have been mustangs. They will rev on me even sitting in completely stopped traffic or while I am at the gas station filling up.

Because you have an MR be very cautious with who you tune with. I would, because of your location, reach out to Kozmic Motorsports to see if they can e-tune you. They are best in the business with the MR. Past that I believe 5150 in CA does it as well. Good luck but be careful with your car and who touches it!
