Bad Steering Angle Sensor?

Recently I bought a crate motor for my 2010 EVO X and had it installed by the dealer. He gave it to me with AWC, 4WD System, and ABS lights/messages. I was informed that the SAS required a re-calibration via 4-wheel alignment. After 2 days of having the car, the mechanic told me that he couldnt get the warning messages/lights to go off. Assuming theyre using a MUT3, he told me that the problem is the SAS. After a diagnostic, he claimed the only sensor that wasnt responding was the SAS.

1. Do these sensors go bad often following engine swaps?

2. Is it bad to drive the car this way without and of the electronic 4wd features operating?

3. Do you recommend purchasing the sensor and attempting to replace it?
(OR what else could I try to identify the issue?)

I chose the most experienced mechanic at the dealership but he did admit that it was the first EVO X he has motor swapped. After searching high and low I have only found a few instances where people were able to replace the sensor and clear the codes/warnings.

Others have had more troublesome experiences with broken AYC pumps, improper installation of the steering rack and pinion after the engine install, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well if the mechanic is willing to purchase the sensor and see if that works then I would have him do that. But that seems odd that it worked before he did the swap and after now there is a problem pretty easy cause and effect there. You can drive it like that but it will not perform the same.

when i purchased my evo x (used and well out of warranty) literally the next day the service 4wd system light came on. i worked at a vw dealer that also encompassed a mitsubishi dealer. fault was for the steering angle sensor and replaced it and it was coded and no issues since. obviously the first thing that came to my mind when it popped on was the pump. steering angle sensors go bad. it happens.

So update: I havent made any progress on this yet. As the dealership where I live keeps giving me the run around about how and when I can get my car back in. I dont really want to replace the SAS until I know I have the resources to clear the ASC/AYC/4WD/ABS lights off.

After reading some, I noticed people with "steering angle sensor" issues claim theyre reading the code from their Accessport. I do not have any codes for the angle sensor. Pretty sure I dont have any codes for wheel speed sensor, but I DID find BOTH front wheel sensors had NO bolts in them....any insight?
