Dirty wheel

Hi,

I got my new EVO FE for around a month. I noticed that there are lots of dirty powder stuff on my wheel - they are like the pencil shavings, but only the carbon powders. I just hand wash my car and then took a drive. There is a new thin layer of the carbon powder.

Is it normal? Do new car brakes all do something similar?

Thank you.

It's brake dust. Your always gonna have this happen with the stock brake pads. They dust like crazy. Just have to keep cleaning the wheels.

Thanks! I had a 2010 gts before this evo. I didn't notice brake dust when I was driving the gts and I suppose it was using the stock brake pads... Does performance car get more brake dust? Or should I downshift more to get engine break to save the brake pads somehow?

cant compare a lancer to an evo..yes performance car = performance brake pads.

but you can downshift so you aren't using your brakes as much.

Worst brake dust I've ever seen in 40 car purchases, it's just the way brembo pads are.

After a drive - feel the dirty wheel and compare to the other side (I assume only one wheel is 'really dirty' from your post and title). Is it really hot? You may have a dragging brake.

No. It's normal brake dust. The OEM brembo pads are very dusty. It is an attribute of a pad that can be taken to autocross and perform fade free, and also perform fairly well for a track day if the car is stock.

I would rather change the pads than changing the clutch.

Or getting new syncros in a rebuilt trans!

Brown Royal wheel cleaner or P21s both work the treat on EvoX OEM brake dust!
