Quick Question: Is it safe for me to drive with Bolt ons to my tuner?

Hey guys, quick question.. How long can i go without tuning my evo with bolt ons?

I have a ETS upper intercooler pipe , ETS intercooler, ETS V2 Exhaust, ETS intake and my tuner is located 1hr 1/2 away from me. Would it be SAFE to drive my car that far without issues?

I will have him install the Grimspeed 3 port as well when i am there. I believe that is all i need for my bolt on list lol.

Thank you.

I don't see a test pipe? That's the most important part to put on the car.

I have asked multiple sources and they all said the test pipe was not a necessary piece. Do i know? No. Do they? Most likely more than me lol.I'm just heading for a nice little hp gain and a safe tune. I am getting my list from fellow evo x owners like yourself.. I actually don't know what makes much difference on these cars. I just figured if i was going to get out of the factory tune i might as well throw some goodies in it. Some test pipes throw codes? Some do not... ? I have no idea..

I'm a little lost because my understanding was to properly tune these cars you need a test pipe with an 02 bung sensor so they can dial in the tune properly with that. It is also my understanding that 99% of the gains for basic bolt ons comes from the test pipe. I thought that was 'the part' to get for the EVO X.

Whatever you do make sure you have a reputable tuner that works extensively on the EVO platform.

What the hell.. is that? ^ LOL. If you're thinking those are the gears I should be in then you're wrong. I'm going on highways for 1hr 1/2 where minimum speeds are 60mph.

First off, a test pipe is worth major gains on the Evo X. The OEM unit is very restrictive. Definitely one of the best bang for buck mods you can do. I personally wouldn't get a tune until you source one. Not bashing your tuner but I'm not sure why they would say that. A test pipe is worth more gains than a cat back exhaust.

Secondly, as long as you stay out of boost you'll be fine. Your fuel trims may be a little leaner cause of the intake but it's fine as the car runs pig rich from the factory anyways.

guys... some of us are tree huggers and depending on where we live we have too have cats and we like our clean air and we dont like the fumes.

if u like test pipe then good for you. its not for everyone and i sure hate it.
u dont need a dam test pipe for a street car and i assure you that those with test pipes arent even daily driving their cars let alone "using" all that power all the time. 95% of evo owners have their evos in the garage over 5 days a week.

sure best bang for buck, but to each their own.

and no u dont "need" a test pipe to get a good tune.

What crack are you smoking? I have a CATTED test pipe. All the gains none of the downsides.

Research - then talk.

And I use my power every day I drive my car. That's why I modified it because before when stock it was boring and slow when driving it.

Not putting a test pipe, catted or otherwise, on these cars is a waste. May as well just get a Cobb accessport and a 'stage 1' tune + flatbill hat and call it a day.

Truth bombs coming atcha!

Yea I can't agree with most Evo's being garage queens. I'd venture to say most people that own them drive them regularly.

I've daily driven mine for 3 years, almost all of that time with a test pipe

If you plan to mod, a test pipe should be in the first round. Along with a boost controller and tune, it's the best mod for the money to make power.

The catalytic converter is the most restrictive piece of equipment on the entire car when it comes to making good power. A test pipe or high-flow cat will make huge gains compared to every other bolt on you could do. I have an ETS test pipe installed on my evo X, she's my daily every day to work and my grocery getter on the weekends. Obviously you can smell the fumes from the exhaust, but who cares?

A bunch of evo owners running test pipes isn't gonna do a damn thing to the environment compared to people with race cars, straight pipe classic cars and motorcycles, etc.

OP, get a test pipe or a high-flow cat, it's a MUST when you get a tune for the car. I promise you won't regret it.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't want to smell fumes when I'm driving.. don't care that much for power over that. If their is a better alternative I would do it
