Can we remove and drive without the radiator plastic piece?ce

Do some of you drive without the front cover under your hood? That piece that covers the upper inter cooler pipe / radiator shroud?

Is their a specific reason it is there that is actually important? I wanna remove it for a few weeks because it is cracked and damaged and i wanna repair it but i still need to drive the car. I honestly dont think it is a big deal removing that crap but if their are any horror stories i would rather know lol.

I would definitely leave it on. It keeps air from escaping around the radiator so it can cool your engine more efficiently. I would just live with it for now until you get it fixed. Especially in the hot summer months.

I have been driving without the radiator cover and engine cover for a year. No overheating issues yet.

DO NOT DRIVE WITH THAT OFF!!!!!

That plastic piece provides a critical surface off which to control airflow passing over the exterior of various engine sensors in order to keep them cool and make sure they work properly. Removing it can upset their operating temperature and throw off the readings. This can lead to incorrect ecu timing and engine knock.

Best case scenario you'll only lose a cylinder cup. But you could lose the entire anthromite rod bearings and put a hole through your block!

Thats a bit dramatic, especially when many of us have experience driving without the plastic piece for long periods. I am not discounting the fact that the part is important as to the proper performance of the car and its longevity, but you'll be fine for a few weeks.

I have had mine off for about 3 years now and I used to be stationed at Fort Bliss, TX (El Paso, TX) and the summers got in the triple digits. Never had I had one issue with overheating or anything.

It did make me think for a second lol. I just put mine back on figuring it would help direct the air flow.
