My Story $25k WRX to an $45k EVO X
My Story $25k WRX to an $45k EVO X
I wanted to share my story of how a middle aged Father(me) went from a fun/rugged/baby hauling/perfect swiss army utility car (WRX hatchback) to a sweet/sexy/Automatic..Ahem Twin Clutch EVO MR for $3k. The story starts when i was walking with my wife and daughter and i mention that i was thinking of trading in my WRX for an EVO. My wife immediately was appalled since i even mentioned EVO. To give a little context we were a exclusive subaru family she drives a 11 Forester XT and me at the time, 12 WRX. Well after 6 months and a kitchen remodel later she was onboard with my Idea. I then went to Carmax to see how much they would give me and they offered $17k. I immediately went to good ol Craigslist and put the car up for sale. After 2 weeks i was able to sell my car for $21k. That same weekend the hunt for the EVO X came to 100% engagement. First couple days i was finding potential candidates, but they were all over the US. I would have to consider the price of travel and roll the dice if the car was truly mechanically sound to an amateur car enthusiast or else i'll be out a plane ticket. This is when the Unicorn came into the picture. It was 5PM Sunday and i was giving up for the day of searching, but saw a 2010 Black EVO X MR Touring with only 25k miles from Newport Beach. i opened the ad and was immediately turned off that it was modified... it had a AMS downpipe, full turbo back exhuast, upper hard pipe kit, pro tuned and with access port. I closed the browser as i wasn't interested in anything modified. An hour later logic kicked in and i started rationalizing the EVO X Touring purchase. Here's the break down below:
From:
2012 WRX base
MSRP $26,000
265hp, 244tq
Millage: 50,000
To:
2010 Mitsubishi EVO MR Touring
MSRP: $45,000
328hp, 337tq
Millage: 25,000
+ engine goody's- *Installed by Cobb
All receipts of services and aftermarket parts
Seller(Works in a Compliance department of a bank/Middle aged Gentlemen)
After it was all said and done the seller of the EVO really had put in $50k into his car and depreciated to $24k(Purchase price). So i did was any sensible logic non subjective car enthusiast would do. I bought the car !
Bringing it around full circle i sold my WRX for $21k and bought the MR for $24k. Also, considering that the purchase was from an older gentlemen that did the mods and installation right from a reputable company(COBB SOCAL), was a stickler for maintenance and 25k millage less. In my eyes for $3,000 i think this old man did pretty good!

Rationalizing FTW. I do it all the time LOL.
Nice pick up, man. I'm not much a fan of the newer Subarus (they look so big to me) so can, of course, agree with the decision LOL

Haha it's weird how bulky the new sti's look but I still have a soft spot for the hatches. Let me troll nasioc and I'll post the link here to get their view of my purchase. The dark side is awesome!
The hatch is the only one I like other than the '05 I had, which was actually pretty small and nimble feeling.
