Getting a evo with some mods, plz help me to decide

Hi guy,

I am getting a 2014 evo gsr for daily. I saw one local private sell that has 31000km (19000miles) on it,
he is willing to sell it for 33000CAD (24000USD)
it's got those mods on:
Hks Catback
K&N Air filter with UICP
KN BOV
Tomei test pipe (not installed yet)
Cobb V3 Access Port
Lowered on Swift Spec R springs on OEM bilstein shocks
Enkei RPF1 SBC 18x9,5 on Brand new Altenzo tires 265/40R18

This car has been in a accident and all parts have replaced by oem parts. The guy seems pretty honest about his car and he said he can give me all the receipts and part list he putted in to fix this car

owner said the car has not been pro-tuned yet, and just currently running at cobb stage 2 map. What do you guys think? I could also get a seemingly clean 2012 evo with 90000km on from a dealer(they can also add bumper to bumper warranty for more $$), and a bit cheaper price. What do you guys think? Which one?

Thats entirely up to you and what you're comfortable with. Do you have a reputable shop you can take the car to and have it looked over, if you aren't comfortable doing a basic inspection yourself?

A lot of people of course will hop on the "it was modified so therefore not worth it" train, but its not always the case. Hell, my car has a salvage title because of hurricane Katrina, but I took a chance and everything worked out swimmingly.

The parts he has are all of decent quality, and having the receipts generally means the person cares about their car. I'd check out as much as you can, but it sounds pretty good to me!

Mods are light and tasteful, if it's been taken care of and in good shape and the guy is being honest I would do it. Chances are you'll know more about the history of his than the one from a dealership.

Is the car marked as salvaged? Wondering how bad the wreck was.

$24k is a decent price. I'd personally unmarry the cobb ap, sell it and get a tune with the factory ECU. You could probably sell it for $300 and use that towards a tune. I personally like buying direct from owner vs a dealership. Never know what you're getting with the stealerships . I say go for it.

Thanks guys for the inputs! The guy said there is a damage to the frame, he said just the top piece that the fender bolts on to, weld was split, but the shop pulled it back together and welded it back. Don't really know about tuning tho cause I am new to Evos, really want to know how reliable it will be for DD.

I really think that frame damage, as long as it's not bad for safety, it's not a big deal. I will bring the car to mechanic shop for inspection for sure tho.

If you maintain it really well it will be about as reliable as a Toyota. Seriously. Sure, the X has little small annoying quirks, but I never had a doubt in the morning that mine won't start and get me to work safely. Especially with minor bolt ons. Maintain it, have fun with it, and it will last a while.

Everyone has pretty much said everything there is to say.

I went ahead and bought mine secondhand from a dealership... Took me six months, hundreds of hours, and about $5,000 to whip it into shape before it was actually worth what I paid... but that's water under the bridge and the cost of learning.

Even if my car would have not had issues and as things turned out I got more than I bargained for (built engine, transfercase) - I would buy a car from a private party. Dealership warranties aren't really worth sh*t and an Evo isn't really something you want to have to dig into right off the bat if something goes wrong.

One of my friend said if there is the frame damage, the car is worthless. What do you guys think?

Like posted above, the mods are basic. No issues there. Need to find out about that title status. Even if it was fixed the right way, if you ever try to sell it in the future you might have a difficult time. You know how people are... they see salvage and run. Don't want anything to do with it.

Expensive for a car that has been in an accident and has frame damage. I would keep looking. Be willing to travel for the right car. Maybe even consider importing a X from the US. We have tons of X's here, especially given how close you are to New York.
