Considering trading my X for a IX
Considering trading my X for a IX
Wondering if any of you guys have done this or thought about it? What are some of the pros and cons you've developed? I've got a full bolt on X with around 50k miles, and I'm trying to decide if I want to hold on to it or go with a moderately modded IX with the 6speed. I love the look of both cars been a fan for awhile. I'm just looking to get some perspective.
I have had 3 CT9As and X MR... the X came after my Evo 8.. then went back to a 9.
A few questions for you...
Is your X paid off?
It is a GSR I assume?
Is it your DD/ your only car?
Main reason I would not do it is finding a IX in decent condition can be a costly affair. As in 25-30k. If you buy one that is 20-24k can still nab you a decent car but with higher mileage.. Depending on how picky you are of course... These cars are pushing 12 years of age and most have had several owners. It is a gamble finding one in good condition with known history.
This one for example looks to be in great shape. Given the mileage and condition I think the owner is asking a very fair price.

If the X is not paid off.. keep it and pay it off... then buy a IX or an 8 MR in decent condition and own both cars.
While I broke even after selling my X.. I wish I never bought it. I should of just kept one of my first 2 Evos I had in the past.
Hope this helps.

I don't daily my Evo X GSR it sits all week long, and I stretch its legs on the weekends. I'm still in the hole with this car around 23k. At some point in the near future towards the end of this year the car will become my DD and ill be racking up some mileage. Which is not something I want to do. Another question is why are 9's holding there value so well and the X's value drop to **** after 70kish mileage?
Some other things to consider...
Keeping the X as a DD, you already have a car that is running good and you know it well and will likely not give you problems. While not as rare as a 8/9, it is still an Evo and they are becoming more rare to begin with. If you sell it, depending on what year of X it is... at 23k you may break even or make some money.
If you get the 9, you will have to be patient til you find the right one, color and condition you feel comfortable with relative to what you are paying for it or are willing to pay for. Keep in mind, that unless you find a car that has been in possession of the current owner for some time, this can always be a gamble... some Evos have as many as 5 to 10 owners at this points.
My point is if you really want a 9, and are willing to go through the work of finding one, by all means go for it.
To answer your second question.. IXs will always hold their value higher than any USDM Evo for the simple fact that it was only made for 1 year here in the US. It would be the same if we would of gotten an Evo 7 for say 1 year, then had the 8 for 3 years and the 9 for 1 year. So its basic law of supply and demand. Personally between the 8 and 9, the differences are minimal. Particularly if you are going to mod the car. The Mivec is not a deal breaker for me. Parts are virtually interchangeable between models. And its much easier and cheaper to find an 8 in decent condition for less money than an equally clean 9 with similar mileage.
I would go through this thread https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/lo...-ix-merge.html. Has a lot of info about the differences between the two.
Astro Train pretty much nailed all points. It comes down to want. My IX is not the most comfortable car ever, but I have another car to daily. I prefer the IX of all Evos for my own reasons. For what I use my car for, a X would not fit the bill. For you, it may be completely different. My point to all this babbling (LOL) is that get what you want. Owning/paying/maintaining a car you aren't 100% happy with is just the worst.
And +1 that IXs are rare so prices are skyrocketing. There are more differences than just MIVEC, but they may or may not matter to you. For the average Evo owner, an VIII works just fine and the prices are much more reasonable.

The X is a more comfortable daily, but that also means the 8/9 are more raw, better weekend blast machines, so depending on how much of a rough ride you can tolerate, a 9 might be a poor daily. Just depends on what you really want out of the car. Maybe get a 9, and lease a Mazda 3 or something to daily. They're like $150 a month.
