18k/fuel/dp install postponed tune?
So I finally gathered all the toys for this next build on my X MR. MHI 18k, widemouth dp, cast investment manifold, ID1050, ASNU330 will be getting installed soon by builder. Once this is complete, in a perfect world, I would drive about 2 hours away for a tune. If this isn't the case, will my Evo even be driveable until I get the tune complete? This is my daily, so no option to drive another car right now. Any suggestions on what to do? I'm looking at 2 places to get tunes and neither do remote so no chance of getting a basic tune to drive on. I was previously tuned on basic mods, 3 port, intake, exhaust (stock dp), fmic, UICP, Am I better off worse case getting it towed 2 hours, renting a car for a week?
I would not dare to drive the car with a new turbo mounted. You will at least need a base tune for whatever mods you have installed. At that point, you might as well get E-tune. For E-tuning you will need a wideband AFR install on your downpipe, a computer and a tactrix cable. I wouldn't bother driving 2 hours or tow the car to get a tune.
Send Chet an email and ask him about E-Tuning. My car was tuned by him a few years back and it is still in one piece. LOL

Good luck,

Good luck,
You can drive perfectly fine with all those things installed except for the injectors. Just do not get into full boost whatsoever.
Injectors would need to be installed at the shop or flash a basemap for them before your drive.

i recently finished building my evo 8 but its currently untuned.
Mods that were done..
-built head (somewhat)
-gsc s2s, beehive springs and ti retainers
-resurface head along with new head/exhaust/intake gasket
-1200cc PTE injectors
-255 walbro
-ets intercooler
-ets licp
-dc sport turbo downpipe
-tomei catback exhaust
-COP kit
-arp headstuds
After the installs. did a cam break in, followed the GSC instruction, then drove the evo around. I dont suggest you do this but i put on about 200km of driving around and decided to just let her sit until my tune is scheduled.
I had a boost/afr gauge installed to somehow keep track of whats going on while im driving.
-AFR readings bounces around ~12-15 while driving and ~14-15 on idle, i dont think its that bad for an untuned car but i know i shouldnt be driving it without a tune.
-Boost readings, I drove the car very carefully and stayed out of boost most of the time.
-LICP, im not sure if this is what caused the problem but the car is much more responsive and it kinda temping to step on it a little bit
-speaking of that, i actually stepped on it, just a little and hit about 4k then the car went through a fuel cut so it stopped me from what i was about to do
-during break in of the cams, AFR readings stayed on 10.0, just an fyi
-EBC, not yet installed and never drove around with it, I figured that might cause a big problem without a tune.
So yeah, now the car is sitting pretty and im currently waiting to get my tune.
idk if this help but i just wanted to share my experience with how the car is like when driving without a tune

Thanks for the feedback, I'll let tuner install injectors in hopes it'll be driveable for a few days until I get that done. I have AFR and boost gauges so good to go on that, one of the first things I got when I purchased the car. I'm not sure an E tune would suffice for my SST so would prefer to complete this in person. I don't think I can go wrong with either Moore or CBRD for tune, after research it looks like they know how to keep my SST happy. Hopefully next weekend I can drop my car off and get everything installed, I started collecting parts about a year ago so should be happy once this is complete. I'll definately stay off boost until I get tuned.
Razor is completely correct. You should be able to limp around fine for a little while. You just can NOT install injectors. If you drive like a granny and don't go in to boost, you should be fine.

What raxorlab said. Just leave the stock injectors and it'll be fine to cruise to the dyno shop, then install the injectors there. They only take about 15-20 minutes to change out.
