Aftermarket Head/Tail Light Reliability

Dear Members,

I've been doing A LOT of research on the various aftermarket headlights and taillights for the Evo and have noticed that MANY people have had issues with the lights. The main issues I've seen are:

1. Installation issues: No instructions to help with install. This makes me wonder how good of a product it is if they don't even bother to include instructions.
2. Lights going out fully or part of lights (reverse, turn signal, etc) going out months after installation.
3. Customer Service not being good if/when you have a problem.
4. LED tail lights confusing your ECU and causing your ASC light to come on.
5. Lights being labeled as "Plug and Play" when they are not. Plug & Play to "me" means you take stock lights out and then plug new ones in without needed to modify anything.

With that being said, are there ANY companies out there that you are aware of that make good quality lights, have good customer service, good warranty, and are TRUE plug & play ? ? I don't mind paying more for lights. I'd rather pay $800+ for a set of good, reliable lights that are EASY to install, than $400 for a set that will have issues 6 months down the road.

Thank You,

Lando

I have a set of aftermarket headlight and taillight for my evo x. I got them from an IG seller ( if you read posts in the other section, you'll know who I'm referring to) and they are the audi style headlight and varis style taillight.

I've been running them for a little bit over an year and have no issue with any of the lights. But let me answer your questions one by one...

1. Mine came with one sheet of instruction which does not really help with the installation. However, both head and tail light are plug and play unit. No modification to the OEM wiring harness is required. Anyone with basic electronic knowledge will be able to install them as it's really straight forward. There's no way you can plug in the harness to a wrong plug since it's all different.

2. None of my lights go out during the time that I used them. Only the led tubes in both headlight and taillight are part of the headlight assembly which you can't replace unless you unsolder them from the circut board inside the lights, rest of the other lights are the same light builbs as OEM. As of the reverse, brake & signal lights, even if they do run out, they are replaceable items. You can simply swap them out like how you'd do it with the OEM head& tail lights.

3. Customer service was great when I purchased mine. One headlight was damaged during the shipping process but the IG seller sent a replacement to me right away after he saw the picutes I sent him and I received the replacement headlight in about a week. Both of my head and tail lights come with an year warranty.

4. Can't speak for the LED taillight as only part of my taillight is LED, not like the other style that you're refering to but I don't have any ASC light from swaping to aftermarket tail light.

5.Mine is plug and play as mentioned above. For my headlight, the only extra work that I need to do other than plugging in the new one is tapping the fuse for the DRL.

Hope this help.

JIMMY HIPPO,

I will search the other section but if you get a chance, could you PM the seller's info if its not too much trouble. Also, how much did you pay?

Thanks,

Lando
