Hello Everyone,


I have my Tomei single exit exhaust for about 1 year now. It sounds nice in the cabin and while the car is on park with a deep sounding tone, but when driving it, the exhaust sounds raspy. It doesn't retain that deep sound. I've looked on youtube and the majority of the evo x cruising by with the tomei sounds the same. My current setup is, stock down pipe, HFC, and the tomei. I was thinking of switching my HFC with the AMS resonated test pipe to see if it would cancel out the raspy sound but am unsure if it would do anything. Any suggestions?

 

I don't know if that will make much of a noticeable difference. You are adding more flow with a resonator (ams test pipe) vs a hfc will does limit flow. You probably will need to be retuned if you swap parts. Of you can
add in a vibrant resonator or something similar to help. In person that exhaust is raspy regardless of application, more so when there are test pipes and downpipes added into the mix.

 

Yep Vibrant resonator should help.
I have a Tomei replica exhaust with test pipe and was very raspy. I added a Dynomax 24250 resonator and the
rasp went away. Now its just a nice deep sound while driving very pleasing.

 

Yea I think that is just part of the material and design.

Adding a testpipe wouldn't help.. probably just make it louder.

 

I had the Stock Cat on a Tomei Ti Extreme and there wasnt really a rasp. I later put the Tomei Test pipe to put on, once I set up a tune and while it got louder, I cant really say it got more Rasp to it.
Its always had a little Rasp, but then again my 330 V8 with LTH, No Cats and flow master 40's has a Rasp to it under WOT.
