How unsafe would it be to make one run through a gear without a blowoff valve? I'm thinking mine may be leaking even though I cant find the leak. If i remove the bov and cap off the coupler , I know the air couldnt recirculate back through the intake once i let off the throttle, but would doing it just one cause any trouble? Say just doing a small pull in 3rd just to see if it'll build boost, then back off.

 

Boost leak test works just fine, no need for improvised leak testing.

 

A safer test would be to remove the bov itself and pressure test it up to ~22ish psi directly if you think its whats failing. If it goes all the way up to about 20 psi before actuating, then its probably not the problem. If its not holding lower pressures (5-15psi) then its busted.

 

That would be alot better way to go

 

you can also spray soap water on the areas u think may be leaking, if it creates bubbles you know you have a leak.
