Thoughts on "Performance" Winter / Snow Tires?
Hi,
My Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60's are in need of replacement. It looks like the LM-60 is no longer made in our OEM rim size- or any Blizzak perf. winter tire at all in our size- ?
The Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 looks highly rated, and is the least expensive option on Tire Rack. Has anyone used that tire? Or, do you guys have any other recommendations?
I'm only looking at Performance because I dont like the loss of steering feel and whatnot when you use ordinary studless winter tires.

I usually go to this somewhat spammy website that aggregates winter tire reviews from other publications: http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre-Tests/#winter . Scroll down to the "Winter" section. Note that we don't get all of the latest and greatest snow tires in the US for some reason, so you have to sort through the EU tire reviews.
With winter tires, it comes down to your priorities. What's your primary goal? Best dry handling with acceptable performance in snow and ice? Or do you need to prioritize ice traction above all else?
I have a set of older Dunlop Wintersport tires for our local snow-covered "Wintercross" events. They were among the best handling snow tires at the time I purchased them, but they're still comically squishy relative to any modern high performance summer tire.

Blizzak definitely won the marketing competition, but they're not the only game in town. Plenty of other snow and ice tires are as good or better.

I like the Sottozeros so far. I'll see how the winter goes.
DaEvoPusha,
I'm bout to pull the trigger and purchase a set of 4 Pirelli SottoZero 3 for my X.
Had a set of Michelin Alpin PA2 back in 2014-2016. They were freaking awesome. Wanna try the Pirelli's. From all the reviews, they're mostly positive.
