Question Inline Fuel Filter Recommendations

Heya,
I have a set of ID1700's I suspect are spraying poorly. I have one cylinder running lean on the plug, with raw fuel sitting in it as well. I suspect the spray is so poor, I have fuel cleaning the intake side of the piston, while running lean at the spark. Almost like a stratified fuel charge. The car has a decent idle, with an occasional drop "missing power stroke" that can be heard. It maintains target AFR just fine under load. Off cruise/free rev, AFR can drop as low at 10.5:1 for a few seconds before happily hopping around 14.7 again at idle.

Previously, the car has been on E85, and the inline filter currently installed is a 40 micron JEGS. According to Injerctor Dynamics, the recommend nothing larger than 5 getting to the injectors. It's my educated guess the injectors have been heavily contaminated, which could also explain my "just under threshold" random multiple misfire that's worse at idle (low flow rates.)

So far, I've been looking at Radium's 10 micron inline filter, as well as Fuel Lab's 6 micron inline filter. I have a 3/8 braided fuel line in the engine bay where it sits, so I would just get some AN fittings to hook it up.

I'm sending my Injectors to Injector Dynamics today for service and cleaning; and I'll spruce up my fuel setup while I wait.

Does anyone have any recommendations for inline fuel filters before I get one of these two? I have no plans for E85, and simply want to keep my injectors clear. My fuel pump is a 450lph running at about 44psi @ the return side of the rail through a fuel lab adjustable regulator. Currently I get to around 515whp @ 66% idc, 8100. So unless the filter is super restrictive I should be golden.

Radium with their microglass 6 micron filter or if you want to spend the $$$$$, the Injector Dynamics filter

Aeromotive, FuelLab, and Radium are the proven players. I'm sure the Jegs / Earls race filters would work fine as well as long as they're sized right and you need to save a few bucks. I know you can change the filters out in the first three brands if you decide you want to start running E85 down the road. 10 or 6 micron should be fine as are your hookup/fuel line plans.

+1 on the Aeromotive. 10 micron, e85 safe, massive capacity, and I think it was like $120.
Whatever you do, don't buy the tiny $40 ones that people do that have a disk in them for the filter the size of a dime. No surface area to actually filter out material.

I ended up going with the Radium 6 micron glass, it should match the fuel pulse damper nicely, lol.
Thanks for the input everyone.

Warhawker, can you provide some photos of this setup? I haven’t seen anyone use this Radium setup yet.

I use the fuel lab 6 micron micro glass in everything that needs a filter. Works great, no issues with clogged or dirty injectors.

Can you provide some pics of your setup? Where is it mounted to?

I’m aware of that. Apparently he installed his in the engine bay. Thus, I wanted to see its location in the bay etc.

I originally ordered the JEGS 40 micron since shops use that in E85 kits. When I opened it up and realized it was a dime sized FLAT disc of mesh I threw it into the riding lawn mower, because that is about how capable it is. I would never use it to protect FUEL INJECTORS.

The Aeromotive filter I found to be the best bang for the buck is this guy:

My build thread has lots of fuel related stuff. Mostly OEM integrated fuel controllers and surge tank. However, the second thread linked in my FIRST post in my build thread has the aeromotive fuel filter stuff.

You can jump right to it HERE

I've ran a jegs fuel filter for 5 years now and have had zero issues with it.
