Mechanical Baffles in Exhaust

So you know how a lot of modem cars have the option to open up the exhaust making it louder by the push of a button? Is anyone aware of an aftermarket option that could be plugged into an existing exhaust? I'm thinking for when i pull into my neighborhood.

Hooker makes a pretty slick one that's adaptive and programmable but it's not cheap!

I use one of these at my muffler.

I wouldn't trust it in a hotter location. It starts opening at 5 PSI. My fabricator said they are more reliable than the electric valves. It is rusting after one winter on salted roads.

I'm guessing you have to adjust the rod so it's partially open under vacuum unless you're using it for a cutout. Definitely the cheaper route!

I'm using it as a cutout in one tailpipe of the T1R 76S muffler. Makes a quiet exhaust even quieter, especially on startup, idle and deceleration. I just remembered I'm actually using the 63 mm model for that.

That Holley unit looks like they know what they are doing. I don't personally have any experience with these systems, but my concern with all these inline flappers is that they would create some unwanted back-pressure when closed. Also, I wouldn't think that they would make the car any louder when open, just quieter when shut.

For an alternative option, X-Force makes something called a "Varex" exhaust. It uses a flapper, but having it open vs. shut changes how much exhaust goes through the muffler vs. straight pipe. When I finally change out my exhaust, I plan to incorporate one of these. Also might be cheaper than the Holley system.

Along with the standalone muffler, MAP also sells a full cat-back with one of these things.
