Unhappy Evo X SST Transmission Rebuild

I just bought a 2008 Evo X MR and was having transmission problems. It started by the car dropping gears when its not suppose to and just this week it got to the point where I lost all of my even gears. I brought the car to my local transmission shop and they said I needed to either replace or rebuild the transition. They told me that a new transmission would be 22k and to rebuild it would be 14k. I don't have money to get it fixed and might have to sell the car if I cant find a cheaper option. I'm going to bring it to another shop to have them double check just in case but right now I'm assuming that the transmission is done for. I was basically just wounding if anyone else has had similar issues and if the cost to fix seems right. I love the car and don't want to sell it but if I cant find a cheaper solution ill have to. Thanks

The cost seems WAY too much. Checkout Kozmic Motorsports. you would have to ship the trans but they could fix WAYY less than that price. There is also JACKS Transmission right there in CO.

SSP has reman (supposedly like new) SST transmissions in stock for $6k.
That local transmission shop is trying to hose you down either by accident or on purpose.

If you parked the car for like a day and have all the gears back then maybe change the SST fluid can fix your problem. It happened to me when I was on my way to Vegas, losing even gears after a long drive and it turned out the SST fluid was bad before the recommended mileage. Changed using Mitsubushi Diaqueen and problem go away since.
