how to press in main rear diff bushing?

Hi all.

I just replaced the rear diff side mounts with torque solution poly bushes, which was fairly straight forward.
However, I'm confused how to replace the big diff bushing in the subframe. I have a torque solution solid mount for that.

Should I unbolt the side mounts and the subframe bolt, support the diff (lower it a few inches?), and air hammer?
Which direction should I air hammer--towards the rear or front of the car? And should I aim at the metal cup housing holding in the bushing?

Only ever used C clamps to press out before, any advice is appreciated!

A big socket that matches the outer bushing sleeve and a bolt/threaded rod can pull it in. Otherwise you can try to get your hands on a bushing install kit.

I used a makeshift tool similar to posted above using pieces from my bearing remover tool kit and a long *** threaded bolt from home depot. The service manual says to press out from the front side pushing towards the rear and install from rear pushing towards the front.

Note: I also used a sleeve that went along with the bigger piece on the left that allowed space for the bushing to press out. Did this opposite to install new Ralliart Group N bushing.

Thanks guys, and thanks for the instructions to press out from the front towards the rear. I know people have done this with an air hammer, so I assume they are able to fit it between the subframe and differential and hit the housing? Is there really enough room for that?

I'd imagine that the folks who used an air hammer probably did it from the rear hammering forwards, unless they dropped the diff completely. But if you make the tool, it's a super simple process and comes out with relative ease. Honestly it took me longer to put together the tool than it did to press it out.

Thanks a lot. I'll do that!

Also, I'm assuming you took off the sidemounts to lower the diff enough? Or was unbolting this main rear connection enough to fit in the cup and bolt?

Thanks!

I had to remove the side mounts as well to allow it to move down and slightly to the left to allow enough room.
