New X MR buyer - looking for car; Questions

I've decided to go back to HPDE track days and am looking for an Exo X MR. My last car was a Corvette and I swore I'd not go back to the track unless I was in a EVO X lol

Q1.What are the biggest factors in selecting a car?

Q2. Are low miles the single biggest factor affecting car values and should I focus on a low miles car only? example, A local 2012 MR with 35k miles is $30k. a 2008 with 109k miles is $20k. I could build the motor a few times for $10k.

Anything in particular I should look for when buying?

Thanks.

I am writing here to make sure I come back to this. I went from a C5 Z06 used for summer fun and HPDE to a daily year round +HPDE Evo X MR.

Your questions depend on where you are taking the car to (power wise).
If you going to replace/upgrade the engine and trans then mileage will obviously mean less.

Yeah, I know it may be tough to avoid but I'm hoping to keep it mostly stock or as-is as long as possible. I know how expensive going down that road can be. I invested over $20k into a Yamaha Raptor 700; stroked to 727, ported and built to the core; 130RWHP. Super fun but it's endless. The more you play, the more you pay. I'll let you know once back on the track.

Engine issues, especially at stock or near-stock HP are few and far between. The SST's track record however isn't so stellar. If I were shopping for an MR I would find a 2011-14 (updated timing chain, interior facelift, still has Recaros) and plan on an SST rebuild. ($6,000+R&R labor would get you a mild upgrade rebuild. Plan $10k for a full race setup.)

You can not rebuild a 4b11 a "few times" for $10k lol. You'd be luck to do it once doing it yourself and using proper parts with good machine work.

an SST rebuild is north of $5k plus install. Buy the lower mileage car.

With the feedback I decided to get the 2012 with 35k miles. It's pushing about 305hp with full exhaust and custom tuning. I'm signed up for my first track event Dec. 17-18 Sebring International; raceway, FL. Looking forward to comparing this car to my last track car, Corvette C5.

I agree, was about to say the same!

Congrats for sure & already have a HPDE planned. Check those front brakes & fluid & dont over stress them if the compound/fluid spec is unknown

Cheers,

So after a decade of SST usage, I am fairly certain that OVERHEATING is the crux of the death of a SST. Keep the temps happy and it isn't as fragile as many report.

I'm not sure what a whiteline setup is.

the car is a 2012 MR Touring, Phantom Black Perl paint, MAP cast turbo manifold, AMS Widemouth downpipe, Invidia Q300 catback, race catalytic converter, CBRD velocity intake & intercooler pipes, Swift R coil springs (1" lower), EVOSCAN CORKSCREW sw. The car is immaculate with a very pleasant exhaust note.

Car looks fantastic!! I will say, the one thing I don't like about the touring is the chrome mirrors, I had to slap carbon fiber overlays onto mine..

I didn't even know they ever did that! I have to say I agree; that has to go!
Mine is a 2012 MR, Wicked White. Just never saw that.

What are your opinions on the OEM style rear spoiler? I actually like it but am torn on whether to add it or not. I found a pre-painted one on Ebay for $250; don't know if it's any good though.

I eventually want to put the OEM high-rise spoiler on mine. But I want to find a matching trunk too, don't want the MR lip spoiler with it, nor to drill in the MR trunk.
