Bad AMS Downpipe welds??

Anyone have some input on this? Welds look terrible to me. Welder inspected it and thought the same but he may be more critical being a welder himself. Worried about it leaking down the road and wonder if quality control should look at this.

They look to have good penetration, and probably won't fail. Definitely a bit curvy though. You could always reach out to AMS.

I think I might. The welder I know that looked at it closer in person said “no penetration” in multiple spots. Thank you for your guys second opinions as well.

I also just bought an AMS downpipe in the Christmas season. It's about to be installed.

Here is what mine looks like. I'm not too worried, but I do hope that it does not leak:

I reached out to AMS and showed them the pics. They’re willing to switch them out if you pay shipping so wasn’t worth it to me. They also insured me that they are all tested and also welded underneath, inside the pipe as well so I’m thinking they’re probably good. Just look kinda bad.

Sounds like they put the "new guy" on the evo downpipe jig and didn't bother training him for cosmetics. As long as it doesn't crack later, I'd run it too.

This pipe is stainless right? Do you have a boroscope, or a little dental mirror? I would look inside.

I would be more concerned if they BACKPURGED the weld on stainless 304. When I tig-weld exhaust I back purge the pipe- this means you use argon like normal in your tig welder, and you also fill the inside of the pipe with argon so as the metal is molten no oxygen contaminates the liquid metal and forms carbide precipitation. This will cause even a good weld to crack if you have good penetration.
