2 hr drive to tuner am I safe?

Hi guys

I have a Evo X MR. Has a cat-back installed and a drop in air filter. Looking to do exhaust manifold, downpipe, and high flow cat. Problem is I’m a 2 hr drive from tuner. They recommended me to trailer my car to their shop. Are they just being cautious because they don’t want to be liable for saying it’ll probably be fine or would it be that serious? I’m also currently on a Cobb AP map Stage 1+ drop in filter LWG.

As long as your not being stupid I don't see why they would wan't you to trailer it. Stay out off boost you will be fine.

You should also do intake and 3-port boost solenoid. But you should be fine, STAY OUT OF BOOST. I drove 1.5hrs in almost exact scenario in an X MR.

I was thinking on doing that last. Along with UICP and probably calling it a day for my DD. Was going to just pay a retune charge but is the boost solenoid very important for the tune?

For the cost of the solenoid, I would go for it now, it's cheap and easily installed, just a plug and some hose run. But it really wakes the car up, the factory boost levels are kinda lame, but it's not going to impact your tune session by not having it. You can tune for what you have and do your thing.

But for $130, and same tune price, it just seems like a miss not to do it now.

I see yes. with the cost of the retune I mine as well get the intake now I found out. Looking at AMS or ETS. Any opinion? Also mainly only other mod I have in mind was the UICP. Would I need a retune if I did just that down the road?

I did an intake combo: Tomei Intake Arm and Cobb Box (Bc the Cobb box was from previous owner). And yes, the UICP won't affect your tune down the road, you're good there.

Unless your manifold is cracked, no reason to replace it.

And it'll be fine to cruise to your tuner.

I'll echo the stay out of boost and you'll be fine to get to the tuner. I'll also recommend the 3-port but don't put that on before your tune!

you think it’s that big of deal if I stay out of boost for the 2 hr drive? Tuner wants $112 to install the controller only.

I drove to my tuner with the 3-port installed (that 1.5 hours), again, if you stay out of boost it will be fine, save that 112. I did however only install it the day before the tune, so no other driving was done.

Copy that. I'd go with the Artec manifold. Best design available.

Check the turbine housing carefully, it's also likely cracked

I'm going to stick my neck out and argue with all the old-timers and say that you're increasing your risk factor a good deal putting the boost solenoid in before a 2 hour drive. If you accidentally tip in for a few seconds trying to merge or pull out with the other mods, you're probably fine with good fuel in the tank. But the 3 port with no calibration will overboost on top of your mods will compound your risk. It's a pretty easy install so if you want to do it in the parking lot, I'd encourage it but I personally would be damn nervous driving with it and the mods without a tune.

You can install the 3 port and leave it unplugged. It'll have the CEL, but it'll be running wastegate boost and won't hurt anything.
